"Our existing Owens Corning wall panels had been damaged in a basement flood. Although the framework and panels had changed since our initial install some 20 years ago, they custom made new panels that fit perfectly. Additionally, they replaced interior doors and repaired drywall. The work was done on our schedule and done to our satisfaction. Their customer service was great. They came back out to adjust a door that wasn't closing perfectly."

"Basement Project We absolutely love our new basement! I was very nervous when selecting the contractor for this job. I interviewed three contractors for the job, all seem very decent, but what set Best Home apart was Jeff Segovia. He designed the whole layout of our basement (we love it) and oversaw the entire project from beginning to end. The construction crews were very polite and friendly. Best Home did an excellent job and very flexible with many changes I had and they completed the job on time (took 3 months and exactly 1 week)which was amazing. I am actually hiring them again for additional projects. I highly recommend Best Homes!"

"IN OVER HIS HEAD. Eric promised a completed project in 6 months. 22 months later, Eric walked off the job without completion leaving us with unfinished rooms and a house full of necessary punch work as well as unaddressed warranty items that we now have to pay someone else to finish or fix. Awful experience. Kinnie might be good for small jobs, but he clearly has no idea how to sequence and schedule a significant renovation. "

"Should be called "Steal-tite". Company came out to give estimate in MAY 2019. Said they couldn't do the job until December, but we weren't having any leaks by June, so we went ahead and signed contract, sent in $800 deposit. Well, we ended up buying another house and decided not to have the work done. This was about October. Tried to call Seal-tite several times, always get the "answering service" and they never call back. Finally found the card of the engineer who quoted our estimate, Curt Giantonio. He said too bad so sad for our deposit, and that we had no recourse to get the money back. I realize the contract said the deposit was non-refundable. But the company could have been courteous, understood the situation, and refund my deposit even though legally they don't have to. Instead they've chosen to keep my money for zero services rendered. I could understand them keeping a portion to cover the travel costs of the engineer who came on site to give the estimate, but there's no way that is anywhere near $800. Greedy company that obviously doesn't care about people."

"Excellent! We were so apprehensive to build a custom home when we couldn't be there every day to oversee the project( we were 5 states away). Mike kept us up to date with photo's and progress reports. He met up with us to select finishes and was so helpful giving us tips and recommendations. Top quality workmanship. Truly and very happy with our forever home."

"A 95% disappointment. Unprofessional, low quality work and project left unfinished when it was apparent the required correction would cost more than the final payment. Plus Moe tricked me into paying more than the 2/3rds payment (citing cost of electrician, etc) and insisted on what amounted to 90% payment JUST BEFORE showing me his handyman had built out the tub wall 1” short of the tub and they filled in the gap with grout. Shame on him. Shame on me for trusting him. But he comes across as such a caring gentleman. Niches were not placed where indicated, tile did not reach ceiling as requested and gap filled with grout instead of pencil edging, shower curtain rod installed so curtain fell outside the tub (I indicated height and they thought it meant height AND depth), rebuilt walls were rough but painter painted over anyway and when he ran out of paint he stopped painting, uneven wall left gap between drywall and side pencil molding, toilet roll holder mounts set too wide so bar barely holds bar up, epoxy grout was wiped over new ceramic tiles leaving a haze that required a power drill with buff attachment and grout cleaner to fix the most obvious problems, grout cleaner dripped down on glazed bathtub which now needs reglazing, etc. Contractor walked off job preferring to lose $1300 still owed in preference to spending the $3-4000 required to complete job professionally and satisfactorily."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Basye, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
