"Tim and his crew were a delight. He and his team repaired my wood floor and baseboards, a job that took extreme craftsmanship because the materials in my older home are no longer available. They came up with a solution and the finished job looked as if it was the original decor. Would I hire Tim and his crew again? You bet! I’m sending him a punch list of repairs with the reassurance that the job will be done with care and excellence. Thank you!"

"We had several different companies in mind for our master bedroom flooring project, but we ended up going with Troy at Top Notch Construction! We are SO glad we found him and his crew. Troy came out and did the measurements for our bedroom floor, and he was as able to give me an estimate in writing right away. His estimate for labor and removal of our old carpet (it was nasty, pet stained, etc.) and to install the new flooring was completely fair and doable! We were able to schedule the project within a week of our estimate, and the hey were even able to start a bit earlier and ended the project with my bedroom cleaner than when they started! Our floors look and feel amazing! He provided the trim boards and put down the transition strips between doors and rooms. The entire project from start to finish went way beyond my expectations! I'm going to have him come out for an estimate on our deck next! Again, Troy and his crew were on time, totally patient with me as I picked out the exact luxury vinyl flooring, and he remained non biased about flooring material brands, and that says a lot about a company! Thank you TNC for our brand new floor! We love it!"

"Dan and Adam Drew did a wonderful job installing molding in our new house. They were quick and professional. They spent time making sure the molding was to my liking and were willing to change anything if I wanted them too. Their work is top notch. I plan to use them again in the future. Great experience! <br />"

"Joseph did an excellent job on my stair railings! He advised on what could be done, knocked it out in 5 days, and even had an excellent recommendation on a painter. Joseph has the experience, technical know how, and talent at an extremely affordable rate. I will hire again for future carpentry projects this year. I can recommend enough. "

"It went well overall! My brother got the remodeled bathroom that he wanted to have. Brandon was diligent in repairing all items that needed to be done before installing the ceramic tiles around the shower and the bathroom flooring. These repairs are only items that you can know once you start demolishing. Brandon did more I think than what he signed up for in doing the necessary repairs. He is good in what he does! Thanks, Brandon and crew!"

"1) Dave Beck (Classy Craftsmen) provided the most thorough, clear, informative and detailed proposal of the 4 contractors I had quote this work.   <br /> 2) Classy Craftsmen were very appealing because they were willing to perform ALL the items we needed done, not just the big ticket items - but various handyman tasks as well. <br /> 3) Dave Beck was able to provide many suggestions and ideas that added value to the work we planned to perform, given their extensive experience repairing/remodeling homes throughout the city. <br /> 4)  Dave Beck provided the most overall competitive pricing, and the most flexible scheduling of the 4 contractors I had quote this work. <br /> 3) As a contractor myself (unrelated work) - my expectations were incredibly high.  The workmanship of Dave's crews EXCEEDED my expectations and everything was addressed exactly as expected, in most cases beyond. <br /> 4) Dave's crew members were exceedingly professional and courteous (and patient!!).   There was never a moment of discomfort having them in our home, with our dog or our family!  It was a pleasure getting to know them and spend time with them.  They addressed our every concern....... <br /> 5) Most importantly - the workmanship was honest, excellent, and thorough to the point that it exceeded our expectations.  We could not have asked for better work and craftsmanship, fairer pricing, or more professional contractors to have worked with.  We are VERY pleased with everything!!! <br /> MY FAMILY AND I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Batavia, OH

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
