"VERY impressed with the work and overall professionalism of Coast to Coast. From the proposal/quote stage all the way through payment, everything was fully communicated, executed quickly, and delivered with the utmost attention to detail —probably 2-3 weeks from first contact to finished work. They fixed the tuck pointing on our very old, crumbling limestone foundation and installed 3 glass brick windows. Even rough areas I would've expected them to miss because I hadn't explicitly pointed them out were touched up. Would definitely use again in the future. THANKS"

"I would call Star Tuckpointing for any tuckpointing needs in a hot minute. I’ve already extolled them to neighbors and friends. When fielding bids for the work, Star Tuckpointing proved to have the widest knowledge base and experience. They were clear on what work was needed now and what could wait. They explained the process in detail and answered my questions thoroughly. The guys who did the actual work were prompt and cleaned up each day. The work to replace the lintels required the removal and replacement of fieldstone. I was impressed with their abilities—an artist’s touch, really. It looks fantastic. They were understanding and patient as I decided on the color of the mortar and when I was unsure, provided more options. The billing process was professional and all made very clear."

"One word can describe Roger, his crew, and their work -AWESOME!!!   From start to finish Roger and his team where very <br /> accommodating even when hiccups occurred.   After the deck was torn off, we discovered there was a lot of wood rot that would need to be repaired before the steps were completed.  Roger and his team completed as much of the patio and steps as they could, then once the wood was repaired six days laterby a handyman they came back to finish the job and put flashing to make sure it wouldn?t happen again.  Roger and his team are extremely conscious about the work being done as well as making sure the customer is happy.  An hour after they finished (and most of the next week) there was a lot of heavy rain and some of the locking sand did not completely dry and was washed away between the pavers on the steps.  I called Roger and asked for some sand to put into the gaps on the steps, they came out and reapplied a new layer on top of the whole patio as well as filled in all the gaps on the steps.  The sand is now dry, locked and looks great.  Everyone was very nice and very hard working, at the end of each day everything was cleaned up and hauled away.  They went above and beyond what was in the contract - installing a underground drain pipe leading about 30 feet away from downspout that was draining under the deck, Installing new sod and mulch around the patio...even providing mulch to cover existing beds to hide the dust created from cutting the pavers.   Very happy with the results, they went above and beyond for the price we paid.  Will definitely have roger and his crew out to do some other projects this fall or next spring <br /> <br /> <br />"

"I am very pleased with the end result. They were very easy to work with and listened to my concerns and desires. I have worked with other landscapers before and it always seemed that they ended up doing what they wanted to do, not what I wanted them to do. Mary was open to my ideas and they were very flexible with scheduling. They worked around my schedule and delivered when promised. This was very important, because I opted to do some of the planting myself and needed the plants to arrive when I could do the work. I liked the fact that they were willing to do the work in phases or would assist me if I wanted to do some of the work myself. I looked a very long time before deciding upon Stonewood Designs. The style of landscaping that I prefer is not your typical Midwest "shrubs around the foundation" style and Stonewood understood that. While not the cheapest, you get what you pay for. Mary, my designer, was incredibly meticulous. One evening, after a major portion of the work was done, I saw her drive up and down my street several times surveying the work from different angles to ensure it was done correctly. I would not hesitate recommending them to anyone."

"Don just finished the work he did for us and I could not be happier. He took out our asphalt drive, leveled the yard and sodded the yard. He set up sprinklers to use for the next 2 weeks so I would not have to do anything but turn them on. He came when he said he would, finished in 3 days. I love the new paved walkway - we looked at pictures and then he brought me samples just to make sure it really was what I wanted. He is busy but worth the wait."

"Highly recommend Tigele for tile work in Chicago. Worth every cent and completed the work well within the expected timeline. High quality work, timely service, and great clean up. We worked with Johan, who installed a new backsplash in our kitchen. He was on time and cleaned up extremely well. He communicated throughout the process and asked questions whenever clarification was needed."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Berwyn, IL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
