"I called U.S. Window Repair around 9 a.m. A technician, Sam, came around 11:30 and fixed the windows in less than 10 minutes. No sales pitch, just a quick efficient repair. It can be difficult to find a vendor to do smaller repair jobs. I will definitely contact them for any future window repair or replacement needs."

"Excellent experience. Quick and efficient estimate, fast turnaround and installation timeline. Easy payment process. Our new windows match the visual appearance of the old single pane of glass windows, but we have noticed a significant improvement in comfort and no longer get condensation or ice on the inside during colder nights. Highly recommend and would hire again."

"Professional work crew did an excellent job. Windows look beautiful and we are extremely pleased. We did lots of research on types of windows b/c we needed wooden windows inside. We decided on the Anderson b/c we put them in one room last year and were extremely happy with how they turned out. The company has been responsive and the salesman even thought to have wooden inlay on the screen for my kitchen casement window so that the interior would be perfect. Little details go a long way. The cost of brass hardware did increase the overall cost but it matches our period home. Overall, we were very pleased with the entire process."

"The initial contact was with Dan at thewindowdog website. ?I sent photos and measurements of the windows on all sides of my home. ?We split it up into Front, and Back/sides. ?I opted to purchase just the back/sides to see how everything went before taking the plunge to do everything. ?Being an engineer I am very difficult to work with and detail out everything, Dan helped with every question I had and bid the jobs two or 3 times each with different options. Once I figured out what I wanted I told Dan I was ready and paid 50% down to order the windows. Approx 3-4 weeks later they I anxiously contacted them and they were just getting the windows at their Houston location. ? An install appointment was made and my grandparents stayed at the home while the crew installed. ?The crew wrapped and covered our furniture and did an excellent job on the install both upstairs and downstairs. ? After satisfied the remaining 50% was charged. We went with the Alside Mezzo foam filled and reinforced window. The new windows make a huge difference on the traffic noises around our home."

FAQs for door or window screens install or repair projects in Bethesda, MD

Most off-the-shelf screens come in fixed sizes, ranging from 18 inches by 20 inches to 36 inches by 74 inches, which fit the vast majority of residential windows. If your opening falls outside that range or has a unique shape, you’ll need a custom screen built to the exact measurements. Going custom ensures a secure fit, a solid barrier against bugs, and a clean, finished look.

The decision to repair or replace your screen depends on the extent of the damage. Small holes or tears in otherwise solid mesh can be patched, and a sturdy frame usually doesn’t need to go anywhere. However, once the frame is bent or the mesh is brittle and fraying in several spots, replacement becomes a more sensible option—and often proves to be less costly in the long run. Take a close look at both parts before making a decision.

To rescreen a window, start by prying out the old spline, then lift the torn mesh from the frame. Lay the new screen over the frame, allowing about an inch of excess on all sides, and hold it in place while pressing fresh spline into the groove with a roller. Check that the mesh is taut—many pros rest a small brick on it while they work—then trim the overhang with a utility knife.

Most window screens last for 10 to 12 years. Time, sun, and weather gradually make the mesh brittle, so you’ll start to see sagging, rips, or thinning spots that let bugs get through. Check the screens each season; if the mesh crumbles or the frame warps, it’s time to replace them to keep air flowing and pests outside.

Most pros can swap out a screen in 10 minutes to an hour. A quick pop‑in replacement goes fastest, while fitting new mesh into an existing frame or working on a hard‑to‑reach upper window adds time. Either way, plan for at least a few extra minutes per screen so the installer can verify the fit and ensure the spline is seated correctly.
