"They are extremely efficient and reliable. They've done about 5 different jobs for me and I've been very satisfied with their work. They've painted a powder room and installed a vanity, light and mirror in it, they've installed in-line water filters, and there even put in an area of hardwood flooring. They are fast and friendly, I would definitely recommend them and rely on them for my handyman needs."

"We had a great experience with Path Hardwood floors. Not only did they provide an affordable quote but they took care of everything we needed and did an excellent job on our flooring. They were much more flexible than other companies in terms of working with our schedule and needs. Allen was very pleasant throughout the project. Highly recommend!"

"<p>It went great!!   For the estimate they worked around my schedule.  I knew how I wanted the deck to look but that was it. Lew was great in helping me decide all the details. The work was done in a few days and all the workers were very polite and helpful  with any questions I had along the way. I now have a gorgeous deck from the back of my house with new sliding doors up to my pool that has a locking gate for the safety of my children. They did a fantastic job!!</p>"

"JA Drywall has always been extremely professional and friendly and their work is always excellent - this is why I keep coming back! I have tried other drywall guys who offered low prices and have always been disappointed. JA Drywall does a much nicer job than anyone else... they leave the work area clean and their finished result is perfect/"

"John and Nick were very responsive to requests and were always punctual and worked 6 days a week for months to finish our job. They came back multiple times to finish “punch list” items including caulking, trim, and paint touch ups. Sometimes I had to be involved in problem solving some of the hiccups that arose but often John and Nick also came with solutions to problems. Sometimes John and Nick informed us after the fact that something we asked them to do was “extra” so I would recommend establishing early and clearly to have change orders or confirmations of changes that cost extra, but even still for the work they did they completed and the quality we think the price was reasonable and fair.  <br> <br> <br>Now we are in our beautiful new home and are so so happy with what we have gotten thanks to John and Nick at JJ Construction- we couldn’t be happier and would recommend them for any job.   <br>"

"Had an old wooden picket fence that was falling apart. Montco Fence replace the wood fence with a white Vinyl picket fence. The guys were terrific, it was a tough job in that part of the fence went through fairly heavy vegetation that required a lot of work to remove the old fence. We are very happy with the work and results. I would recommend and we will use again when it comes time to replace some privacy fencing we have in the next few years."

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Blue Bell, PA

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
