"I have been using Wadkins for about 7 years. They do my weekly lawn service as well as landscaping work. I have great confidence in these guys. When I first started with them, I looked out one day and saw Chandler on the mower. He was double cutting the yard to give the diamond criss cross look. I told him he didn’t need to do that because it was a lot of extra work. He said, “but it looks so good on your yard!” They still do it that way. I knew I had found the right guys when someone cared that much about their work. Will and Chandler are rock stars."

"Our yard has been turned into a magical peaceful place to relax. The whole team listened to our input and were very professional. We interviewed several landscape designers before we picked Allin Landscaping and this team was everything we could have hoped for. George Allin even took us to Randall Walker Farms to pick out some of our specimen plants. It was a delight to go pick some of our plants. We love the Pacific Northwest area of the country and we wanted to incorporate that feel to our yard and it was accomplished. We have many varied species of evergreen trees that grow in Oregon. Allin Landscaping is first class and really listen and make sure their client is happy. If you are looking for a unique landscape design team with professional people that take pride in their work then without a doubt you will be pleased with their results. We absolutely love our beautiful palette in our whole yard."

"NIEDERGESES created a plan for the front yard and recommended flowering shrubs to compliment the house. We changed a few of the recommended plants and signed a contract. The new beds were outlined with paint and grass killer applied where needed. The 2 man team showed up a week later than expected and removed and disposed of the old landscaping and installed the new plants. The work was done in the late fall and some of the plantings died over the winter. Though NIEDERGESE promised to replace them in the spring, we never heard back from them and ultimately replaced them ourselves. Two years later, now, the landscaping is maturing and is BEAUTIFUL! We often receive compliments on it from our neighbors and visitors. The design and selection of the shrubs and trees is perfect. And although we had minor trouble with the timing and understanding at the beginning , we would recommend their designs and certainly hire them again."

"Jason did a great job with our backyard.  We had a huge concrete slab/driveway that took up almost half of our yard.  Jason cut out most of the concrete, used the remnants to level out the space, and made a beautiful new set of back steps, patio, and drainage in our yard.  He also made a great little fire pit.  He finished with leveling out the yard, laying sod/seed, and planting some plants.  The project was extensive and took more time than we would have liked, but most of that was due to a very rainy spring (and the need for dry ground to do the next steps in the project).  We would definitely use Jason again in the future.    He envisioned the project, created exactly what he said he would, and kept the cost to a minimum.  Now we have a very enjoyable backyard instead of a concrete parking lot.  We love it! <br />"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Nashville, TN

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
