Customers say: Super punctual

"Great. Punctual and neat and lovely workers. Did more work than originally asked for because Rufino saw I had a real problem with a hole in my wall. I would definitely hire again!"

"Edgar G. of E-G Works LLC did a *great* job on our basement including removing water-damaged paneling & replacing by drywall, fixing some wood trim, and painting everything. He was very responsive and if we wanted something done differently he would do it. The price was much less than another contractor's quote. He was able to start right away and got it done quickly and we are very happy with the results. We are hiring him for another project, replacing our front door and repairing its frame. We highly recommend E-G Works of Katonah, NY."

"Flavio and his associate were excellent in fixing my very squeaky indoor stairs. His communication was clear and he came the next day to see the issue and assess how to fix it. He gave me a quote via text later that day and once we agreed on the work, he came back the following day to do the work. They had to be completely ripped up, including the banisters because the stairs could not be accessed and secured from underneath. He laid some interior wood, nails and glue inside each step and then put it all back together. The stairs are very quiet now and even seem sturdier. Very please with that work and promptness!"

"It was a pleasure working with Luis, and his helper, Wilson. Before the job, Luis came to assess the amount of work for the estimate. We discussed different options of how to approach my crooked walls, and he gave me an estimate right there. At every decision point, he asked my opinion. On the first day, he brought different samples for me to decide on the trim. They were both very professional and polite, fast and extremely neat -- they made little dust and cleaned up at the end of each day. The end result shows pride of work -- I have seen a lot of tiling, and theirs is perfect, with neat, straight lines and an almost invisible line of caulk. A++!! The final cost was exactly what was estimated. If I ever have any need of tiling work, I would absolutely work with LAV contracting again."

"Ricardo called the next day and he met with me as agreed. His bid was the most fair for a Great room, dining room, 3 bedrooms, 11 stairs, foyer and entertainment room. He also agreed to do the job as requested over a two week period. He helped us move heavy furniture which not many would do. He and his crew were very nice. The floors came out Great! Thanks"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Briarcliff Manor, NY

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
