"These guys came very unpreparedly... they did not bring their own ladders or flashlights. I had to provide them for them. They also cut 3 different holes in my ceiling before deciding to go through the foundation, they then charged me extra for them having to cut so much.... but it did not reflect on the receipt...when they were done they did a horrible job patching and left the plaster a massive mess. Would only recommend if you are selling per the buyer request to put in and you do not care how it looks."

"Mike Williams was the installer and did an excellent job. He had to deal with unusual wall coverings (slate tiles) but adapted well and took it in stride, altho it did make the job more difficult. He discussed all aspects of the job, and various options. Everynight the job site was clean and organized. The interior of the house was well protected and kept clean. He arrived on time and worked until he finished what was needed for that day. We enjoyed working with him He takes pride in his work, and works hard to make sure the job is done right, and looks good."

"Had an emergency water pipe leak with water running into the basement where Groundworks had already installed a sump pump and drainage system. The pump clogged up with mud and wouldn’t work. Josh Moreno responded and worked so hard getting the system apart and cleaned out. Unfortunately he couldn’t finish until we got someone out to dig up the front yard and replace main water line. Josh was here first thing Monday morning and finished cleaning the system out, tested everything, and got everything working again. We are so thankful he responded to our home and took care of it. Thanks Josh!"

"

NorthWoods Handyman has been an excellent partner for a number of repairs we're making to our farm house. Ron, the owner, came out to our house at our scheduled time to do an initial estimate of the repairs. He explained how he worked, who he'd bring out with him and what we could expect. My respect for him rose right away when he told us straight out that there was one type of repair he didn't do (carpet patching). I'd rather have someone tell me that up front than try to do it and make a mess of it!
Ron and his team did everything they said they were going to do and more. Along the way, they made good recommendations to make things even better (adding baseboards to the flooring, for example). They were patient when I changed my mind on the shower surround I wanted, and returned the old one to Home Depot without complaint. They even helped us move furniture around to make room for the flooring installation. Ron picked up all the materials we needed, credited back any extra items, and provided receipts for everything without my having to ask for them.
The repairs they have made look great. And the new flooring they installed in the basement is fantastic! Everyone who has seen it has commented about how great it looks. They've also been very respectful of our house and our time, letting us know when they are arriving or leaving, cleaning up after themselves, and just generally taking care of things. There was no mess left behind when they were done.
We will definitely be using NorthWoods Handyman again. In fact, we have already asked him to estimate four more projects for us, and are looking forwards to getting those completed.

UPDATE: We contracted NorthWoods Handyman again to complete some more minor projects, including one really icky one (pulling down old insulation out of a farm shed). They arrived on time and got everything done in two days! The work was excellent, and we're very pleased. I've upgraded their punctuality score to an A.

"Overall, they did a decent work, but there were definitely flaws in the job. Installation of the Pella door was good. I had to add quite a bit of insulation around it to assure minimal air leakage. The deck was well built. However, when John left for a while we found one of his workers trying to hammer a screw into place. That indicates pretty much "warm body" hiring in my view.
The lawn edging surrounding the deck was poorly installed, with a seam right at a 90-degree corner; it has come apart and I'll have to replace it. Inside the edging, we wanted rock. When he came up short with quantity he supplien, he "borrowed" rock that we had paid for from another area of landscaping, leaving that area shorted.
Most problematic, there is a drain from the roof that runs under the deck which carries the majority of our roof's water. John's suggestion--and I kick myself for accepting it--was to dig a 3' pit (barely), line it with ground-cloth, fill it with larger rock, and dump the drain into it. In this clay, that pit acts as a rather small barrel,. In anything but the lightest rain, the pit overflows. Because the lawn is nearly level, some of it comes back against the foundation and has caused a moisture problem in my basement.
What was needed, I now realize, was a "french drain" to carry the water much further away, and to an above-grade exit. John's "shortcut" solution was totally insufficient, which I think as a professional he should have realized. I am now looking for a contractor to rework the drainage issue. It will be more expensive, now that the deck is in place, but I have to do it to stop the moisture problem.

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Briggsdale, CO

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
