"After several days of rain in Oxon Hill, MD and overgrown grass, my mowed lawn looks great. The fee quoted for regular lawn mowing was fair. I will use again. Thank you!"

"Very thorough preparation--removal of prior driveway, substantial excavation to permit required base of crushed stone and sand, concrete footings around perimeter of driveway to stabilize edges of paver driveway. Very nice work setting pavers, setting trim pavers on edges, trimming pavers to fit where driveway wasn't square, and applying polymeric sand to seal joints."

"Reaffirming all the other reviews. Quote was given at time of estimate, and completed a week later in 1 day. Concrete patio looks great, the workers showed up early and were great, they cleaned up and laid grass seed. Would definitely hire again for next project"

"The quality of the hardware that was installed is excellent. The water draining problem appears to be fixed (although their work has caused water damage in a corner of our basement where we have never before had a water problem in our 40+ years of living here). The patio blocks and the layout of the blocks look appealing. The backyard stoop also looks excellent. Our biggest complaint with this company is about how they handled communications about the changes that we desired and about our concerns. We informed them, in writing, within three weeks of their beginning the job, about our dissatisfaction with some of their design and plant ideas. The company representatives responded with defensiveness. In the negotiations that transpired, we reminded them that they had told us verbally, on day one, that they would work with us regarding the patio design, the location of flower beds and the plant selections. However, in the end, they were rigid in defending their written contract and justifying why we had to pay for plants and bed locations that we did not want. We paid what they demanded despite not being satisfied with the adjustment they made to the original contract when they planted considerably fewer plants than they first proposed, because we did not want those plants. This company does good work. However, we would not recommend using this company because they are so difficult to work with regarding changes and concerns that occur as the job proceeds. We would suggest that if one wants to use this company, that the consumer work to write out, very explicitly, in the contract, exactly how changes and alterations to the contract will be handled, including how adjustments in the fair cost would be made to accommodate changes and alterations requested by the consumer. All in all, the process was a very unpleasant transaction for us, although the quality of their work is good."

"I've used Sharper Cut to develop the gardens in front of the house, terrace the front garden for a level field for the trees, bushes, plants and water fountain, and build out the back garden to include and expanded patio and fishpond with waterfall. Their work is superior...and helps give the house a more inviting exterior view to family and guests. I'd recommend them for any project great or small...and they can tailor the project for future growth based on your budget! The winter refresh and clean up went exceptionally well...as their work always provides!"

"The owner of the company, Gabriel Bandele, was on site at all times, and kept a tight rein on the three or four employees working with him.  They were all polite, quiet, and ready to make a correction if something was incorrect.  Gabriel thinks of himself -- and is -- an artist of landscaping.  When pruning the trees in front of the house, he kept crossing the street to see how the house was "being framed", and it worked -- it looks great. Several times he asked me to look at views of work he had done, and they were universally attractive. The two weeks between the time he gave us the estimate and went to work was very rainy, and the weeds had multiplied.  As a result, he said that he was going to have to spend more time than he had planned, and asked me to sign the contract saying that we would pay him several hundred dollars more than originally stated. I understood the problem, and did so, but told him that this was not a good practice.  As an artist, he has the temperament of an artist, but was always aware that it was MY wishes which were to be followed.  He made many good suggestions, and had good scientific reasons for his suggestions.   He was somewhat expensive, but very nice to work with, and I would recommend him and hire him again.  Unfortunately, I was not available for a proper walk-through when he finished, but I am happy with ..the result.  He cleaned up thoroughly before finishing"

"This was fine and they were good. Just do overall landscaping, remove some old plants and plants some new ones. He was professional, and he walked us around and explained everything."

"We started with five Angie's List A-rated companies within ten miles of our house, then narrowed it to two based on website photos of landscaping that appealed to our sensibilities.  We got quotes from them.  Both seemed quite expert.  Hometown came in lower and also gave us an Angie's List senior discount.  Jeff first visited on September 10, got us the quote with a range of prices on Sept. 12, and returned Sept. 17 to refine the plan and pin down the price by selecting the exact plantings.  After that promising beginning, things dragged a bit with back-and-forth e-mails, and the job was done in one long day by a crew of at least seven workers on October 21. <br /> The Sept. 17 meeting was outstanding.  We described what we wanted -- a sort of English garden with clusters of low-growing plants, each with its own distinct visual interest.  Jeff really got it.  His plan hit the nail on the head.  The crew did an excellent job, and we are very pleased with the result."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Broomes-island, MD

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
