"Steve and his team did a fantastic job and really stood by their work. They had to coordinate with the property manager (work performed on our Michigan rental property, we live in Georgia) and tenant for access to the property. The team was on site for a couple of days. They did an amazing job installing the drain pipe in the basement to pull the water into the sump pump and the auto on/off dehumidifier they installed in the crawlspace they connected it to the drain pipe so it would not require any maintenance by the tenants. The dehumidifier goes on/off by itself and drains just fine. The basement is now "bone dry" according to the tenant. We researched several different companies, and decided to go with Steve after we talked with him, reading reviews, talking with references and we watched his company videos on the waterproofing process. We really felt like he was honest and was not trying to bankrupt us to complete this job. It still costs us $5,000, but we felt like he would stand by his work and he has. We called him to go back out to the house after the job was completed to check on the dehumidifier (it was our fault), we had the electrical outlet installed in the crawlspace AFTER he completed the job, and couldn't figure out how to turn ON the unit. He went back out to check on it to make sure it was working and we are thrilled with the results. Would use him again and refer him without hesitation!!"

"I needed a bathroom remodel for a small bathroom. I believe Doug took on more than he could handle. He said 4 days which took 6 days. He even told me on the last day he rushed to get out of here because he was tired. Well here's what happened. He uses a lot of caulk to cover up mistakes. The caulk around the standup shower on one side is already cracking. He only put 1 coat of paint on. So you see all the brush strokes and the spots where paint comes through. I mentioned something. And no response!!! He didn't even paint the shelf's in the closet. Here's the really bad part. The TILE FLOOR!!! Omg... It is so uneven. A couple corners are sticking up. Tiles are wavy due to not being even. First week grout was cracking and was coming out in pieces. Doug is very good about responding. I text him about the problem and he came to fix it. He took a grinder to the grout and refilled it. That made it worse. Grout line's are much larger then others. Corners he tried putting grout higher to fill in. Grout is on titles in areas that I cant get off. Grout is 2 different colors in spots. Being floor so wavy he put caulk between tile and floor board to hide it on those pieces. It's a total disaster!! So I text him about it. Didn't hear from him. 3 days later text him again nothing. End of week I text him that he's left me no choice but to go to CIVIL COURT!! Boy 2 minutes later he called. I thought I was being nice by offering to buy the tile again and give him $200. Or he can pay 1/2 for someone else to do it. He said he'd get back to me. Haven't heard a word!! I'm a very easy person to get along with. Him and I got along. So I don't understand why he has an attitude. Other than he can't do it??? So CIVIL COURT I go. First time I've used Angies list. And this is a top rated Comp. I don't know????"

"I own a commercial painting contracting company. I've been doing this for 25 years. Never, in all my time, have I met someone who was so dishonest. If you are unfortunate enough to encounter Joe Harrison, RUN, do not walk away. I can be reached at painterjob.apps@gmail.com. Feel free to contact me and I will tell you all about my experience. I had to turn this over to my attorney, Bodman PC, in order to salvage what I could of the warranty and promised materials. What I can say is, Alpine Complete did the job, that's it. I would hope that no person ever has to be so vigilant when dealing with a company, once a "contract" has been signed. I will be happy to share correspondence from my lawyer and Harrison. The sordid tale is too extensive to sum up in a review. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!"

"It has been a pleasure doing business with The Renewal Group. Scott Barnes gave us an all-inclusive quote for the work we wanted done. Scott, Josh and the team showed up every day, bright and early, and ready to work. They worked hard, methodically and consistently through the whole process. The team worked as a cohesive group. They were professional, conscientious, meticulous, courteous and very capable with an eye for detail. We were not nickeled and dimed throughout the project, all increases in cost were driven by our design changes and clearly discussed up front. They answered any questions we had graciously with full explanations. They treated our home as if it were their own. Things went very well and we were impressed with the quality of the work. So impressed in fact, we hired them to complete another project before they finished the first one. Based on our experience and the integrity they demonstrated I would recommend The Renewal Group without hesitation."

"Absolute responded quickly to my inquiry and sent someone the same day to inspect / diagnose the problem. This was during the week of Christmas, and they sent a crew the following day to perform the work. Everything was done quickly and I was happy to be able to get the problem corrected so my well pump was not being taxed."

"Corey and his partner did a great job installing 3 new basement windows and for a very reasonable price. They did the job quickly & very professionally. I love that I can open the inserted smaller windows and let fresh air inside my basement now. I am also looking forward to some winter savings now that the old drafty windows are gone."

"It is beautiful! It took approximately 6 months to complete. My garage, dinning room, basement were continually in turmoil for 6 months. The end result is beautiful, but 6 months is too long."

"Biggest scam I e ever experience. The charged me 40k after interest to fix my sagging foundation, and fix my flooding crawl space. After an impressive sales pitch I signed the contract and had them do the ?work?. dusing the sales pitch they told me they would level my floors, and install equipment to prevent my crawl space from flooding every year. They explained this will be a multiple day project and I would have to rip up my floor to give the access to the foundation. So I ripped up my floor, and had them come in to do the work. They were in and out in about 4 hours, and left me with still sagging floors. after Getting in the crawl space myself I discovered that multiple of the jacks that they installed to lift the foundation, weren?t even touching the joists. And to this day, my crawl space still floods with a foot of water every spring. I contacted Ayer?s to see what can be done, they offered no compensation, and no help. If you?re planning to hire Ayer?s, dont"
With Ayers’ full-perimeter waterproofing system and CleanSpace wall protectant, the basement is now dry, clean, and secure. Water is directed into the drainage system and safely pumped out, giving the homeowners peace of mind that their investment is protected and their renters have a safe, comfortable home.
These homeowners were preparing to invest in a 1920s home but knew it needed serious repairs before being rental-ready. The basement had significant water intrusion, leading to mold, cracked walls, and structural concerns—making it unsafe for future tenants.
Amy and Ryan’s crawl space was damp, dirty, and filled with cobwebs, leaving them uneasy about its effect on their home’s stability. Water intrusion was a major concern, and they worried about long-term damage.
A family struggled with moisture issues in their basement, preventing them from creating additional living space. That's when they contacted Ayers about their wet basement problems.
This historic lakeside home was plagued by serious basement issues, including bowing and crumbling walls, severe cracks, and a dirt floor that allowed constant water intrusion. The foundation was at risk, jeopardizing the home's structural integrity.

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Burton, MI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
