"Jeff was great to work with and our new floor looks fantastic. Why only two stars? The crew that did the install seemed to only care about the wood floor. They left stain marks all over our walls, chipped the paint in numerous areas and in one spot the punched a hole completely through the sheet rock wall behind our front door. Both of our pocket doors had nail damage when they attempted to reinstall the baseboard. One was completely nailed in place. On top of all that our nicely finished and originally installed baseboards were put back like they needed to be somewhere else in a hurry. On a few corners the nails were actually sticking out. The boards were splintered and cracked and the mating joints look like the person had never done trim before. There were filthy rags left in the kitchen sink and in the front yard. Our sidewalk and driveway are still coated with debris and some unknown material. The most disappointing thing is that Jeff didn’t check the job before we got home."

There were a few unexpected changes to layout due to structural constraints, which resulted in a less efficient flow. The cost of change orders were not clearly explained prior to execution. The contractor was very hands on and at the job site extensively, and she was easy to get a hold of. The carpenter was not available to work on the project on Fridays, which did extend the project timeline. The contractor pointed out repairs/improvements that needed to be made to bring the home up to code. This added cost, but was necessary and appreciated."

Ed Gross and Norm Gross, brothers both grew up on a farm in Southwest Iowa and learned many practical skills among which the skill of painting. Buildings, barns, the house all needed to be kept up and therefore, at an early age they were exposed to the painting process. When Ed was in High School his older brother began a painting business, and therefore, Ed was exposed to more of the painting trade. In the spring of the 1982 after graduating from the University of St. Thomas, Merriam Park Painting began and between five and ten homes were painted that summer. In the early years the company operated as a sole proprietorship and slowly grew. In the late 1980's the business was incorporated and began to increase its services into areas of interior painting, enameling, drywall installation, taping and mudding, plaster repairs, wallpaper hanging, woodwork staining, and varnishing, ceiling texturing as well as painting. In the early 90's Merriam Park Painting began completing some carpentry repairs. This was important because the painter’s were waiting for a carpenter to be found and hired by the homeowner, and it always seemed to delay projects and be inconvenient for the homeowner. Since we have carpenters on board with our company siding repair, rotted wood repair, window sills, installation of storm windows and doors have been a regular part of the painting business. We have also on numerous occasions replaced interior woodwork, installed crown molding, sized old doors to fit properly and other miscellaneous projects in conjunction with our interior painting work. The carpentry addition has proved to be a welcome addition for homeowners.
