"I hired GR General Contracting to remodel my basement. Every aspect of the project was excellent. My remodeled basement is beautiful. I would definitely hire again. Gordon communicated regularly about the project schedule and kept me up to date every step of the way. The crew were outstanding and it was a pleasure to have them working in my my home. At the end of every day I received a walk through of the progress and an overview of the next days work. I am thoroughly impressed with my experience working with GR General Contracting."

"We hired MH Renovations for a gut reno of our home. They turned our 1940’s home into a masterpiece. From our initial inquiry with them through to completion of our project, they were professional, very responsive and masters at their work. They handled the gut reno of our kitchen, 2 bathrooms, flooring, painting and lighting of the entire home. They made what could have been a very stressful project, enjoyable. Our home was completed within the timeframe and budget that was promised to us. We recommend them to all and will be using them for future projects."

"Roberta and Ricardo, were willing to take on a task that was not to familiar to them. They provided reasonable quote, and arrived prompted and ready to execute. The reviews for the greenhouse stated that it would take multiple days, but they got it together in one to meet a deadline for my event. Their demeanor was professional but friendly, they were open to questions and provided their thoughts for long term issues. I will continue to work with them for all my home project needs, as well as refer others to them for services."

"We've needed a major staircase upgrade for years and got Caesar and his crew to do it. As we decided on this we mentioned our half bathroom on the main level. He gave us a very fair price on the labor for that, and in fact was able to get us a beautiful and custom made vanity and top. The workmanship is top notch and all the men in the crew are very personable. Caesar not only listens, but he readily ask you questions as to your input on how things be done to your liking. The stairs and powder room turned out beautiful. We've already told Caesar that his services for another project will be needed in the fall."

"We called Amethyst in June 2014 with the our my project the first for 2015 and suggested that we call back at the end of July or beginning of August. We called back and made arrangements to meet so she could see the space. Within about a month of the meeting, Kristi provided an intial plan for the room. We worked together over the next few months to find the right solution for the space. In October, Kristi brought out a team of carpenters, electricians, etc. to put together an estimate of the cost of the work. The estimate was within the range of what I expected and we decided to go forward in the spring.      We made some additional changes to plans over the winter and finalized the plan for the architectural review board in mid-April.    Construction started at the end of April.    The demolition and rough carpentry was high quality and done ahead of schedule.    Things slowed down with with the dry wall contractor and that put everything behind because the carpenters as well as the other subcontractors were now well into construction season and very busy and it seemed like there were lots of days when no one was on the job.   The work was substantially done by the end of June in about the time frame projected and we are very happy with the room.   All of the contractors did quality work. <br />   <br /> There were a few glitches along the way:   <br /> 1.  The entrance to the room from the outside involved steps because the room was brought to the level of the rest of the house.  Initially, the carpenters built wooden steps.   However, the building inspector indicated that the steps did not meet code because a landing is required for safety.   The carpenters built a landing larger than the required size because of the configuration of the area/   The landing was ugly and covered up a bed that we use for planting.   We indicated to Kristi that the solution was unacceptable and she suggested building a deck that covered the whole area.    We asked her to draw it and price it and it was more than $5,000.  We then worked together to find something more reasonably priced, but attractive.  We are very happy with the final solution, which added about $1,000 to the cost.   However, we were unhappy because the original plan was not up to code, an unacceptable solution was decided between the architect and the carpenter and built without any input from us, and that this was a code issue that could have been foreseen and took a lot of time to resolve. <br /> 2.  The french doors to the house from the room did not have a good locking system.   The plans called for a new lock, but that was never priced into the contract.   It turned out that due the type of door, the lock itself was going to be very expensive.    The doors were old and warped and this seemed like too much to spend on the old doors.     I asked Kristi to find out how much new doors would cost pre-finished and was told about $1,200.    We talked about wood types and I asked them to price out maple with some kind of textured glass.   After checking, we were told that we could get an Oak Door for $1,200 and that frosted glass would cost about $200 more, but the maple and the glass would add another $1,400.  The final price of the door  installed once it was finally bid was over $2,000.    In the end, we decided to replace the doors with regular glass.   The doors were ordered at the end of July  and were installed in September.   We are happy with the new doors, but would have preferred to have a realistic price up front rather than a guess a that turned out to be way off and also the number of times we had to go back in forth to get a realistic number. <br /> Kristi was very responsive throughout the process.   The room matches the architecture of the house and in the end is exactly what we wanted.    Construction projects always have glitches and cost overruns and we felt fortunate that that they were kept to a minimum and that Kristi took care of dealing directly with the subcontractors to resolve issues.    We would consider using her again for a project should the need arise. <br />"

"During the construction of the sun porch stairs, I brought to Michael's attention the unstable flooring inside the unheated sun porch, which lacked a proper foundation. In one corner, there was a large bouncy area. He removed the carpet and discovered that the joists had detached from the support beams. Michael reattached the joists, installed a new subfloor, and replaced the carpet, making it look and feel new and strong. This repair, which was not part of the original estimate, cost an additional $885. He performed the repair ingeniously from the inside of the house, without removing any siding. Additionally, Michael built the stairs and railings out of cedar and stained them. Although the same stain color was used, the two different types of wood resulted in a bright orange color that did not match our fence and backyard deck. I nervously contacted him about the discrepancy, and he fixed it. He explained that a darker stain could not simply be applied over the penetrating oil stain, so he had to sand it all off. He completed this extra work at no additional cost, despite our offers to pay him and his crew for their efforts. He insisted it was his responsibility to correct the mistake. He was very professional . He was a very good worker . Good worker and he was very honest and I would hire him again. I`m willing to pay for quality work, and he is definitely high quality work. He was always on time. He was always in good communication with us. "

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Milwaukee, WI

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
