"Lord, I don’t even know where to start. I think the job is just too much for them, trying to redo most of the entire house. But communication was horrible, work quality was not the best, and Contractor got defensive when we complain about issues. Was told it would be a 3 to 4 months job and ended up being almost 9 months. This was just completed last year and already our ceiling is bubbling in our bathroom and in the hallway near our back door. They’re still paints splotches on the floor in several rooms where they hired cheapest painters they could find and they made a mess. Installed a door in the bathroom does not fit properly and has a huge gap underneath. Left two big holes in our kitchen floor where the island did not lineup were they thought it was going to be installed. One of the biggest issues, though was they started construction without covering up any of our belongings. We had dust on everything, even our kitchen pots and pans, and such that were on the counter. With the poor communication we had no idea they were coming that day and no time to put everything away. We had to request that they cover things up and use plastic sheets to divide the rooms. Very little respect for your personal belongings. They would show up on the weekends without even telling us. One guy showed up and the equipment he needed wasn’t here so he could not work, but he tried to charge us for driving over. We did not even know he was coming!!! The list goes on and on and on. I have many pictures to prove it."

A properly functioning expansion tank should feel light when tapped on the bottom—if it feels heavy or waterlogged, the internal bladder has likely failed. Other indicators include frequent triggering of your temperature and pressure relief valve, visible corrosion on the tank, or unexplained increases in your water bill, suggesting hidden leaks.
Most expansion tanks have a service life of five to 10 years, though some may last up to 12 years or more with proper maintenance. Factors affecting lifespan include water quality, system pressure, installation quality, and tank construction. Hard water areas often see shorter lifespans due to mineral buildup. Regular maintenance checks can help identify potential issues before complete failure. When your water heater is due for replacement, it's wise to replace the expansion tank simultaneously, even if it hasn't failed yet.
A 30-gallon water heater needs an expansion tank if your home has a closed plumbing system. The need for an expansion tank is determined by your plumbing system type rather than water heater size. Even smaller water heaters create thermal expansion when heating water. If your home has a backflow preventer, pressure regulator, or check valve on the main water line, you have a closed system that requires an expansion tank. Check your local plumbing codes, as many jurisdictions now mandate expansion tanks regardless of water heater size.
