"They have a good selection of plants and their horticulturists know what they are talking about. They give very professional service, listen to what we want and then come up with a plan for our yard that helps us accomplish our goals."

"Mike is a college educated man; he is intelligent, experienced, and has excellent communication skills. It was a pleasure to work with him, and we anticipate a long relationship as we develop our country property.
He knows what he is doing, and started with a survey of the land. Once he understood the topography of the land, he developed a plan and an estimate. His equipment is in good condition and his staff is experienced. The work began on time and proceeded on schedule. He did a good job and there were no surprises. Some parts of the project came in under budget!"

"Fantastic. Al was very helpful and extremely knowledgeable about the process. He made several suggestions that all worked perfectly. There were 2 power lines, a gas line, cable TV and phone lines in the path of the trench that he had to dig and all were perfectly intact after he finished. Great Job. The grade and prep for seed were great as well. We can't believe how well the yard came in after following his directions. Very happy with the results."

"I had been wanting the retaining wall for about 2 years, but the estimates I was receiving was a little scary (like $5,000). I contacted Jared with Aftermath Landscaping, he came over that day and gave me a very affordable estimate. I bought the large 17"W X 8"H blocks, gravel, and caps for about $1,600.00. Aftermath's estimate was $1,100 (including 2 tandem loads of dirt). Aftermath showed up 2 days later, as scheduled, and built the most beautiful retaining wall ever. Simply amazing!!! Jared and his crew of 4 guys arrived a little after 8 am and worked harder than I have ever seen a crew work. They were at it all day until 730 pm. They barely took a lunch break (and that was on site). They completed the whole job in one day. Jared was very particular and professional, a true craftsman. From start to finish, I couldn't be more impressed or more satisfied with the job from Aftermath Landscaping!!!"

"The people there at the office were very helpful. They picked out what we wanted. They did an excellent job of matching the stone where it had to go around the corners and stuff. The only problem we had was that we had a sink installed at the same time, but they evidently dropped something in the sink. It has been six months now since that happened. Rich Murray himself said that he would come out and take a look at it, but he never has. We are still stuck with a dented stainless steel sink. Their delivering of the items was fine.

UPDATE: Rich Murray Granite and Marble has reassured me that the sink was not damaged by their employees. I believe that he is an honest businessman and would not intentionally deceive a customer.

We may have overlooked the defect when we received it."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Canton, IL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
