"I waited awhile to write a review to see how the replaced grout held up, and I’m happy to report that 10 months later there have been no issues in the primary shower. May 2025 I had Oscar redo the grout in the primary & guest showers. The primary shower is used almost daily & the work is 100% better than our poor attempt to do it ourselves a couple year ago. The guest shower is only used when people visit a couple times a year, so Nov 2025 after family left we noticed the grout in a corner was peeling away. I contacted Oscar to get it fixed, & he immediately offered to fix it the next week. We had family coming again in Dec 2025 so I wanted to wait to see how the grout held up after a week of use. The grout has since survived & now I’m finally getting around to writing this review. I’ll definitely be having him come again to fix any grout & tile work in the future. Even for a small project he was professional both times & took the work seriously."

"Juan was fantastic. He returned my call in less than 5 minutes, his quote was reasonable and he was able to schedule my repair on the next business day. He arrived on time, explained the process and completed the replacement of two cracked tiles in 2 1/2 hours. He cleaned the area thoroughly and called the following day to make sure I was happy with the work. I would not hesitate to use him for any future tile project."

"I bought the deal from Angie's list for carpet cleaning for 4 rooms. Gary contacted me a few days after I bought the deal to set the appointment. He was on time on the day of the cleaning. He came into the house and took a quick look through the house and explained what will happen to get the carpet cleaned. They even helped to move some furniture out of the way. The deal did not include the stairs so that's added cost. We also had our rug washed as well for additional cost. My house is so clean now! Yay!"

"Excellent. We replaced a wood burning fireplace with a gas fireplace. We asked the company to see if they could remove the old tile without damaging it, a tricky task requiring some finesse. They managed to do that very well, and we were able to clean the old tile and have them place the tiles around the new fireplace which required a lot of precise cuts to fit the new fireplace size. They did a great job, and replaced/repaired and textured the sheetrock surrounding the fireplace. The workers were very neat and cleaned up everything when they finished. Highly recommended"

"We found Bay Works Tile & Stone through Angie's List back in early June and emailed them for a counter top & flooring quote. We had a couple quotes for the work but wanted to get one more. Hector called me back & we set up a time to meet at the house to go over the scope of work. He arrived on time & was easy to talk to. I told him what I wanted, he took some measurements, gave me some feedback and asked if I had considered a taller mosaic tile backsplash instead of the standard 6" granite slab backsplash.
We like the price we got from Hector and proceed with Bay Works. Hector's quote was cheaper on the flooring part of the job enough that we could add the upgraded mosaic backsplash now, instead of later on. We had shopped materials at a few "big box stores" and had an idea of what we wanted to get, but Hector suggested checking out a few of his material suppliers prior to finalizing. We met up with Hector one evening and found a nicer floor tile & mosaic backsplash at the same price for the material we had previously selected. We selected our materials and moved forward.
The work started the following Friday & continued on Saturday so I could keep from having to take an extra day off work. Hector was there at the beginning of the work, but then his father took over on-site managing the crew and work. The first 2 days were all demo! With the remaining install, grouting & finishing work taking about 5-days to complete. I would do a daily walk through in the evenings to see how it was going and if I found an issue or something I was not happy with, I would take a photo and sent it to Hector. He would either call me right back or just respond to my message and the next day it would be addressed. Even though Hector was not there a majority of the time during the work, there was never an issue reaching him by email or phone.
The job took a while to finally be completed, but this was due to defective sliding door in the dining area. Hector's crew worked around the sliding door incase the door needed to be removed & replaced. Working around the sliding door was perfect has it allowed us to start with the kitchen work and not have to delay the project a month while we waited for Milgard to send our their door technicians.
In the end, everything came out great. Obviously renovations are no fun to live through but Hector, his father & their crew were a pleasure to work with and tried to make it as painless as possible...Thanks again Hector.

"My bathroom floor had to be replaced due to a water leak. Juan clearly explained to me what needed to be done. He met me at the tile store and helped me select the tile for my bathroom. That was very appreciated since I did not know anything about tile. He arrived on time to do the work. The work was completed in 3 days. Juan was very neat and clean with his work, cleaning up everything upon completion of the job. I am very happy with my bathroom floor."

FAQs for tile, stone, marble clean, grout, polish and maintain service projects in Castro Valley, CA

Use a stiff-bristle brush and warm, soapy water to loosen surface grime. Then, let the grout dry and finish with a grout-specific sealant. This combo cleans without scratching the tile and locks out new stains. Always follow the label directions so the cleaner and sealant bond properly. A few extra minutes of care keep grout bright and help your floors look fresher longer.

The most effective cleaner for badly stained grout is a professional-grade steam machine. High-pressure, high-heat vapor lifts embedded dirt without harsh chemicals and brightens grout lines in one pass. Pros often pre-treat tough spots with a mild solution and finish with a soft brush to protect the tile. The result is a deep, even clean that lasts longer than store-bought products.

Tile and grout are water-resistant, not waterproof. Dense materials like porcelain or glass shed moisture well, but even sealed natural stone and standard cement grout can absorb water over time. That’s why routine sealing and prompt spill cleanup matter.

Keeping moisture out prevents erosion, mold, and discoloration—especially in bathrooms, kitchens, and other splash-prone areas.

Schedule professional tile and grout cleaning every six to 12 months, with quick touch-ups in between. Busy kitchens and bathrooms often need attention on the shorter end of that range because constant moisture speeds up staining.

Sticking to this routine keeps grime from setting, reduces mold risk, and stretches the life of your tile and grout, saving you from bigger repairs later.

When done correctly, tile and grout cleaning is perfectly safe for your floors. Pros match cleaners and brushes to your tile type, control pressure, and avoid harsh chemicals that can etch or erode surfaces.

If you’re DIYing, test new products in an inconspicuous spot and follow label directions. The right technique removes buildup while protecting both the tile glaze and the grout lines.

Yes—apply a fresh sealer once the grout is completely dry, usually 24 hours after cleaning. The sealer forms a moisture-resistant barrier that blocks stains, mold, and everyday dirt, making future scrubbing easier. Skipping this step leaves porous grout exposed, which can lead to discoloration or cracks and, ultimately, expensive repairs. A quick reseal now protects both the grout and the surrounding tile.
