"Our experience was perfect! Very professional and high quality work! They built our entire front porch in two days!! Everything we hoped for when we decided to have a front porch/deck built. They were also the cheapest quote we received from the 4 companies we checked! We would definitely have them work with us again!"

"I couldn’t be happier with the work Legacy Improvements LLC fence did! Marcus and his crew extended my existing fence and added a gate, and everything turned out amazing. The crew was professional, on time, and paid attention to every detail to make sure the new section matched perfectly with the old fence. The gate works smoothly and looks great too. The whole process was easy from start to finish, and the quality of the work really shows. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality fence work!"

"Daveron built me a wonderful deck that I am already enjoying. I think the timing worked out well and the pace was very fast given the weather. Within one week, they tore out and old deck (over 30 years old) that was approx 20x10 and replaced it with a deck 20x16. During the process, we moved the stairs of the deck and things came out very well. I am happy with their work and will keep them in mind for future projects."

"The short and simple review: While I do have some minor issues with the work that was done - ultimately, I would hire CFC Builders again. Jim and his team did a good job and addressed any issues I called out in a timely manner and without fuss. The longer review: I hired CFC to restore/re-finish my previously finished basement office after I had the sewage line replaced. I received several quotes and CFC was the least expensive option even with all material costs included in the quote - including flooring, paint, ceiling, etc - many of the other quotes I received did not include those things and were *still* 10-20% more expensive. The following is the job I requested: 1. Frame, drywall, and cap new half walls around perimeter of the room. 2. Prime and paint all walls. 3. Level the basement floor and install new vinyl plank flooring and trim. 4. Tear out existing drop ceiling and replace with new 2x2 grid and tiles. 5. Install 4 can ceiling lights with light switch control. 6. Install door and frame at entryway to room. Initially I was told the job would take about a week - however, that quickly turned into two weeks, and even had a couple of short visits the next week after that to address some minor issues. This was not a problem for me because I am lucky enough to work from home and did not have an urgent need for this space to be completed. Overall I am pleased with the finished room. There are some minor issues that I feel could have been done better - for example, a few of the vinyl planks were very slightly damaged during installation, as well as a couple of dings on some ceiling tiles (though those appeared to have been damaged from the store, not during installation) - but these are very minor cosmetic issues and not anything to get worked up over as far as Iâ m concerned. Additionally, Jim (the owner) offered to address each of these issues to make sure I was happy, and I did have him come back to make a few adjustments. All in all, while I am still quite happy with the finished product and I would recommend them - CFC may not be the best choice if you are an absolute perfectionist and/or on a tight schedule. You canâ t beat the price though."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Chagrin Falls, OH

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
