"The crews were extraordinarily polite, friendly, efficient, and very energetic. They ran into a lot of underground water when digging the trench for the buckled wall repair, but were able to put in the necessary reinforcements from inside the basement extending out to the trenched area. We live in an area with a lot of underground springs and artesian water, and when they began work the dirt under the foundation and crawl space was just wet mud, and water poured in at 36 inches deep as they created an outlet for the water to be safely drained away from the house. The basement is completely dry and we have a back up sump pump. My basement is surrounded by a crawl space since it was added after the house was built. The sump pumps and dehumidifier are warrantied for 5 years and the waterproofing has a lifetime warranty. Our house had problems because the basement was added after the house was built, but Indiana Foundation was able to make the house safe, and completely dry and usable. Since we live on a hillside, we will be adding a French drain behind the house and garage, far enough away to not further damage any of the foundations, but at the natural flow of the hillside where water collects to run down hill or underground. If we go at least 36 inches deep, it should help reduce some of the water that flows into the house area. This was some advice given by the supervisor at Indiana Foundation. They don't install French drains any longer, as they don't carry away all water and don't carry a guarantee, but in our situation it will probably help and is something I will be contracting out in the near future. The French drain is similar to what farmers install in fields to drain away excess water to a creek or deep ditch. It isn't something we have to do, but it will put a lot less strain on the sump pumps and other equipment, and in case of a long term power outage, would likely save our other appliances too (furnace, water heater, walls, etc.). I love the battery back up pump and it has already been in use twice when we had two separate power outages from storms. The workmen from Indiana Foundation were delightful to have in my home, running in and out with loads of materials, cheerfully hammering the walls and floors to install their system. Second: My electrician was able to repair a line running to our garage after the water problem was resolved. Water poured in over the connections in the basement without our realizing it, and no electricity was live in the back room of the garage. New basement, New Electric, New Plumbing - we are very happy with the results!"

"The gentlemen who came to fix our sump pump were friendly but very professional. They told us exactly what needed to be done and why and gave us a quote before starting anything. The quote they gave us was at the very low end of what we had seen online. They finished the job in about 40 minutes and left the area neat and clean. We are extremely happy with their service, price, and the overall job! Thanks, AAA!"

"We first contacted Rudy because we needed the faucets fixed in the house we just bought and we needed someone to install our new microwave over our stove. Rudy was the only handyman I contacted who actually answered the phone when I called so I didn't even have to leave a message. Although he was busy with other jobs he worked us into his schedule and came out to look at the showers. He saved us a lot of money and future problems by telling us we could purchase replacement parts for the faucets instead of replacing them. He installed our microwave and we had him order the parts for the faucets.
After we moved into the house we discovered our dryer wasn't venting properly and that the clog had to be in the tube under the house. I sent Rudy a message on a Sunday and he called back right away. He had other jobs but worked us in to his schedule and was able to come out and fix the clog on Tuesday. It took awhile because the vent tube isn't really accessible from the crawl space. Rudy cleaned up all the lint he pulled out and put everything back the way it was.
Some people might consider his fee to be a little high but for the quick responses, high level of professionalism and quality of work he is worth the higher price. When possible, Rudy will suggest cost saving idea and has even given me some do-it-yourself advice on some projects I'm going to tackle myself.
We are going to have him come back and do some more work for us around the house.

"Rooster came out to fix the drywall in my home, upon inspection he discovered that I needed more help in other areas. I gave him my budget, then he let me know what he could do for that amount. He installed the floor I had purchased in record time, and it looks beautiful!!"

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Chalmers, IN

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
