"John was responsive and professional from day one.  He showed up when he promised and completed the job on time and within the quoted budget.  The work looks great and he cleaned up after himself.  He stood out from the rest of the contractors who either never responded or never showed up!  He gets my highest reccomendation.  <br />"

"George was an absolute pleasure to work with. We wanted our driveway to be installed right after snow melted, and he was very responsive as we traded phone calls about scheduling. He was out to do the job the very first day it was possible, and he and his team did a terrific job. Our driveway had a couple of areas where the grading was both important and tricky, and George and his team carefully tested the area with water to make sure everything was flowing correctly. Terrific job--highly recommended."

"The installer did an outstanding job.  Extremely professional, always on time, polite, courtesy and extremely easy to work with. I highly recommend this company.  There was never any mess. He gave my neighbor a bonus. They used asphalt from the street to the driveway. There was extra so he patched the holes in my neighbors asphalt. at no charge.  I highly recommend this company. I need some work on the sidewalk in the front of my house, Dio Construction will definitely get the job.I can not say enough about how good this company is. <br />"

"We were supposed to inspect our granite and decide how we wanted our countertops layed out. We visited Absolute and were told that the granite was not at their warehouse so we could select how the granite should be cut. We had paid a $500 deposit months before to hold the granite. When informed that the granite was ready to install we were told that we had to find someone to install supports on the bar top before the granite could be installed (10 inch overhang needs support). Absolute provide no assistance with this until we forced the issue. Absolute told us it was our problem - they only install the granite. The installers were fine however they told me that the supports for the bar top were not the preferred supports and the bar countertop had to be installed with shims under the bar top to make it level. This could have been avoided if Absolute also installed the supports for the bartop - they are the granite experts - not me - the homeowner. Installation was OK but the finish of the granite surface has many small holes and defects and in some areas are rough. Research informed me that the granite surface was not finished properly because the surface should be smooth. Overall I was not happy with the service or product from Absolute. I had another granite countertop installed when I lived in another state and the finished product and service was much better."

"I put my yard into Barbara's very capable hands and her crew worked tirelessly to bring it back to life again.  It's hard to adequately describe how bad it was but it was alot of work.  I have 2.7 acres and after my husband died 3 years ago, the property just went down the drain.  Her crew weeded, removed poison ivy, pruned trees, bushes,  rose buses, cut back plants, removed plants and bushes, mulched, planted new plants, you name it, they did it.  My husband always did a wonderful job maintaining our property and I had become very depressed seeing it all go downhill.  It is now as beautiful as it ever was.  She even went out of her way to make special areas for my 2 youngest sons.  My youngest was upset when he found out a downed tree (downed after a storm) was going to be taken out.  He liked climbing on that tree and considered that area his special place.  When Barbara heard how upset he was she suggested they make a surprise for him out of the tree.  Now he has his own special place, where the tree was, with a fence and table made out of the tree and 2 camping chairs.  And so his older brother wouldn't feel left out, they made a special place for him too and supplied both areas with signs stating who's place it is.  They loved it and couldn't wait to start making each area "theirs".  Barbara listened to my needs and concerns, had suggestions which I really appreciated since I know nothing about landscaping and did a thoroughly professional job.  Her staff worked hard, cleaned up after themselves and were always polite and  professional.  I will not hesitate to call them again in the future. <br />"

"This is the fourth project we have reached out to Carl about. So that says quite a bit about what we think of their work. He has repointed our brick front and rebuilt the stoop. He has built a cement walkway and a simpler fix of filling in a mortar joint between my and my neighbors house as we had yet another water infiltration issue. Carl and his crew are always professional and the work is always done really well. Carl is very communicative on statuses and if there are any issues. He is also very good and going over any reasons for potential changes to the project and why we would want to consider it. The only downside to Artistic Masonry, and this is not much of a downside when compared to the quality of work, is it often takes a while to schedule the work. I have found its worth waiting for. Overall we are definitely pleased with this project and how it went. We will be reaching out to Carl for our next masonry project."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Chester, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
