"The crews from Irish Castle Paving who worked on my driveway during the preparation for paving, and then again during the actual paving, were highly professional and very courteous. They did a fabulous job, making sure everything was level and being very careful around the recently installed pavers adjacent to my driveway. They were meticulous about cleaning up when they finished. I could not be more pleased with the experience and with my new driveway."

"Pavestone Rockwall pecan bricks were purchased by our contractor. Home Depot loaded the pallet on his truck and he brought it to our yard. While unloading we noticed a third of the pallet was pecan. The rest appeared as cinderblock. When returned to Home Depot they were very cooperative in refunding. Home Depot told us this is a common problem with this product from Pavestone. When Pavestone is contacted the say they will correct the problem, but nothing is ever done. My contractor has contracted Pavestone here in Denver and was told a representative would come to check out our issue. Never seen anyone from Pavestone. They are totally unresponsive to paying customers requests. Arrogant and rude to disregard customers. Find other product if you can! We now have a partially built retaining wall and my contractor is searching Denver to find a pallet tgat even has a few pecan colored bricks! Pathetic customer service"

"I used this company for a number of years and the overall service is no longer the same. I had them over to clean my gutters and I witnessed ladders slamming against the side of my house and they tore one of the edges from the corner of my roof with their step ladder. I will not use them going forward."

"$27,000 of damage done by 3D Paving! 3D installed a paver patio with stairs at our house 11 years ago. They failed to use a waterproof membrane in between the paver stairs and the side of our house. Moisture has seeped in as a result causing our brick wall to crumble. We had 2 brick repair companies and a waterproofing company come out to diagnose the problem and they said it was because the company who installed the stairs didn't put in the membrane. The stairs and bricks need to be replaced and the membrane that was supposed to be used needs to be installed. 3D does not take responsibility for this. The patio is also coming up at the edges in some parts and sinking in other parts. I caution you to not use 3D. The work will look good for a few years but not in the long run and they will cause huge problems to your house because they don't install properly. They will not take responsibility for their mistakes and poor workmanship. "

"Missed a lot of small pea holes in the middle of driveway. Said that is usual, but yet the sides had sealcoating in them and my small cracks. They came out to patch it and well looks awful. My son even told them the spots and they missed almost all of them. Usually they charge $90, but our subdivision had over 30 of us that went in and they charged $75. Over 30 of us are highly disappointed with the quality and false advertising on there flyer."

"We were referred to this company and spoke with Steve. During early phone conversations, we were told the job was usually around $1,000. We scheduled a 10:00am appointment. Steve called after 10:00am to confirm, but did not arrive until close to noon. When he came to see the space, the price discussed was $1,500, which we agreed to. We paid a $750 deposit via Zelle to schedule the work and signed the contract. We agreed to purchase the exhaust fan ourselves. After purchasing it, we were told there would be an additional $200 charge to install it. We were also asked to send an additional $75 via Zelle for HOA paperwork and insurance. No work was performed other than the site visit. After multiple added costs were introduced and before anything started, we decided to cancel. We were then told the deposit would not be refunded. With no work performed, a partial refund felt reasonable. That was not our experience. We would not use this company again."

"We had a brand new driveway that had been seal coated one other time. We paid Black Pearl to seal coat the driveway in August. It rained less than 24 hours after seal coating and the temperatures dropped. When I reached out about how this might effect our job.....crickets. Complete silence. We didn't have a single crack in our driveway prior to this job. This company has lousy customer service and has proven to not give a crap about their work. I thought the owner/salesperson was coming back out to take a look at our driveway and instead sent his crew out to draw a few squiggly lines on the driveway which now looks like a patch job. I would absolutely not work with or recommend this company in the future. We had used them a few years prior to having a new driveway. But in my opinion my new sealcoating job is s***. They do not stand behind their work or product."

"It went terrible. They did not show up the day scheduled and I had to email to find out what was going on, the next day they showed up and did a terrible job. There was and still is tar all over the grass. There was tar on the sidewalk and pave stone. Chunks of tar on the driveway and they didnt even finish the apron part of the driveway and didnt not contact me about it. I again and to email them to fix and finish the driveway seal. The job resulted in them having to use a water pressure for over an hour which highly increased my water bill and got tar on my flowers.. The entire drive way seal was completed over the coarse of a week when the day of service should of been a matter of an hour. We will NEVER use this company again."

FAQs for asphalt paving installation projects in Chicago, IL

Most driveways wrap up in roughly a week. Allow two to three days for installation, followed by an additional two to three days for the surface to cure. Concrete and asphalt follow this timeline, whereas a gravel job often finishes more quickly. Laying out the schedule upfront makes it easier to plan your week and your budget.

Sealer prevents water, salt, and UV rays from damaging the surface. Apply a fresh coat every one to three years, and you’ll slow down the growth of cracks, avoid pricey repairs, and keep the driveway looking sharp. A local professional can handle the job efficiently and ensure even coverage.

Material is the significant driver when it comes to the lifespan of a driveway. Asphalt stays strong for about 20 years, concrete lasts 30 to 40 years, and paver stones can last 50 to 100 years because you can swap out damaged bricks. With regular top-ups, a gravel drive can also reach the century mark. Knowing these timelines helps you map out long-term maintenance and replacement costs.

Repaving strips everything down and starts fresh, letting you change the layout or improve drainage before pouring new material. Resurfacing, on the other hand, adds a top layer over a solid base, giving you a facelift without the need for a complete demolition. Go with repaving when the base is failing; choose resurfacing when the structure is sound and you just need a new surface.
