"Reaffirming all the other reviews. Quote was given at time of estimate, and completed a week later in 1 day. Concrete patio looks great, the workers showed up early and were great, they cleaned up and laid grass seed. Would definitely hire again for next project"

"DDC was hired to clear and grade a building site. Exceeded my expectations. Was on time and done before schedule. After building was erected the team was back to finish grade, seed and straw, and repair rock lane. Would and have recommended DDC for any earth moving job. "

"My sidewalk had one section that settled, and created a tripping hazard. Rather than destroy the pad, and pour a new section of concrete. I hired Stabil Solutions to use polyurethane foam technology to raise the pad. It was a perfect job, nice even walk way. The foam works fast, and fills any voids that may be under the pad. If you have a driveway section, or walk way that is not level, this is a great way to save money and time without creating a huge construction project...no messy bags of concrete. Consult Stabil Solutions."

"Juan, his son and the rest of the crew did a great job in repairing and installing a16 foot second wall with column to my patio. They also had to remove half of the pavers to re-level the patio and added pavers to fill-in the 3 feet of bed between the house and the patio on the left side of the steps. They were punctual and very professional. They laid down 4x8 plywood from my front driveway around the back of my house for heavier equipment to protect my grass. My wife and I could not be more pleased with the job that they did and plan to have them back next spring to add some lights to the other wall and columns as we really like the one's that they installed on the new wall."

"Our family couldn’t be happier with our new deck. We absolutely love it. The owner of Smart Choice Construction, Dimitri, was so easy to work with and walked us through exactly what was to be done and why. He was always on time and able to answer any questions we had. We will definitely consider Smart Choice Construction for any future needs. Dimitri removed our old deck and staircase and replaced it with a larger 20 x 12 Azek Deck and 5 step staircase. The new deck is beautiful with vinyl rails, spindles, and PVC trim covering all the rim boards and stringers. We also had a vinyl gate installed which opens and closes easily with the deck. This was a great addition, especially with young children and pets. We are so impressed and have gotten many compliments on our new deck from friends, family, and neighbors. All of this was completed in just 2 days!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Childs, MD

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
