"Outstanding Walk-In Shower Installation and Attention to Detail We recently had our jetted bathtub removed and replaced with a beautiful, high quality walk-in shower, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the results. From start to finish, Team member, John, demonstrated professionalism, skill, and attention to detail. John handled the demolition and removal of the tub efficiently, keeping the area clean everyday and minimizing disruption. The new walk-in shower was installed with excellent craftsmanship — the walls, shower tray, and fixtures are high-quality, and the overall job turned out exactly as we had hoped. Also, what impressed us was Don’s follow-through on the punch list. The few items we brought up — no matter how small — were addressed promptly and thoroughly. Their commitment to customer satisfaction truly sets them apart. We highly recommend this team to anyone looking for quality bathroom remodeling done right the first time. A+ work!"

"I chose this company after comparing three other quotes and initially felt confident signing a contract with them. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing and frustrating. I hired this company to build an outdoor bar and stamped concrete patio. The bar should of only taken 7-10 days but dragged on for 8 weeks. Workers showed up once a week for only a few hours, and communication was terrible ? I constantly had to text and call for updates and got a 24 hours? notice before they arrived. They even started work before the permits were approved; I had to contact the county to find out. While I?m happy with the finished bar, they never completed the patio that was in our signed contract and stopped responding altogether. I ended up hiring another contractor to do it. The craftsmanship on the bar is fine, but the company?s professionalism, communication, and reliability were awful. I would not recommend this company. "

"Be careful dealing with Triangle Reconstruction. Rob, the owner comes off as humble, honest and sincere, but if something goes wrong watch out ! I hired Triangle Reconstruction back in the winter to repair the foundation at my house. This was a very large project of which I had paid him about a third. On January 11 they caused a fire at my house burning down my kitchen. Rob was very apologetic at first, but when I told him I wanted another company to finish the project he said I owed him a lot of money for the work they did and he claimed that they had completed %80 of the job. Fortunately, I had a reputable structural engineer come out to inspect my foundation before they started working on my house and then I had him come back after the fire. The engineer stated only 1/3 of the work had been completed - if that much ! Rob also threatened to file a stop work order if I did not let him bring ‘his engineer’ out to look at it. I understand accidents happen and against the advice of many people I was actually willing to give him the opportunity to finish the job and try to help rectify the situation. However Rob’s estimate to finish was nowhere close to being equitable and provided no consideration for the hardship he has caused in my life. His estimate even included money owed for work they did in the kitchen which was burnt in the fire that they caused ! He clearly doesn’t understand the gravity of this and what my family and I have gone through and what we’re still going through. We have been out of our house for almost 5 months now and probably won’t be able to move back in for another month or two. My family has suffered tremendously due to this company’s negligence."

"Beware of Dollman construction, also doing business as Essential Improvements in the Roanoke, Virginia area and beyond is a company to avoid. They employed somewhat dirty practices in my opinion and while it may not be the fault of Dollman himself, the guy I was dealing with was Tracy White, design consultant. Ironically, he's no longer with the company. If my situation had contributed to that, Dollman made the right choice in getting rid of him. While I have copious notes as to what happened here, for the sake of the review, and my fingertips, I'll do my best to keep this brief. I was looking to get a workout building built (16x20), concrete flooring, walls, lights, etc. Tracy guesstimated they could do it for within 65k while several of the others I had gotten quotes from were north of 80k. His confidence gave me confidence and that was my biggest mistake. He wrote up a very quick design contract/commitment where I had to provide a 5k deposit and if they came in above 65k, I'd get my money back if I didn't want to proceed. I signed it, this was my second mistake. The agreement I signed didn't have enough parameters written in, just that they had to deliver a workout room / building conceptual design for a project within a 65k budget. A couple of months went by and I had met with Tracy White and Jimmy Dollman once to go over the initial design, after my signoff the quote would be provided. Jimmy was unaware that we had this agreement and the budget was 65k and it was never brought up in our face to face meeting. We just discussed the design, changes I would want and some recommendations he had for me. Price was never brought up but the quote would be coming. Some weeks later Tracy asked if he could stop by with the quote and I of course was fine with it. He came over empty handed, I invited him in and he told me it was going to be 92k. I asked him why, he said that it would have been 65k base cost with no profits if they were to do it for themselves. The 92k was because of the distance between them and myself. I told him it was odd because he had confidence they could do it for 65k. He nodded and then said that he didn't want to tell me over the phone, text or email and he felt I deserved a face-to-face meeting. I reminded him of the agreement, he said he had it but took a picture anyway and said he'd talk to Jimmy about returning my 5k. Within that same week Tracy reached out and told me that he spoke to Jimmy and was told that they can do the project within 65k but obviously some things would change. I told him not to bother and just refund my 5k. He responded with things along the lines of "you can't expect us to work for you for months for free" and "the 92k was because of all the things I wanted". That's simply not true. This left me feeling gutted because at this point I didn't want to use them anymore and what would this design look like? No walls, lights, ceiling or roof? I had some options, but I wasn't going to chase it too hard, however the route I decided to take was to email Jimmy Dollman directly, take accountability for the mistakes I feel I made, mention that I felt Tracy didn't communicate openly or honestly with me, him and/or his team. There was some lapse in communication beyond me and my control. I proposed that he refund $2500 to me because I didn't want anything for free, however I still wanted the agreement to be upheld with honesty and integrity. Dollman never replied to my email but in a separate email communication with Tracy asking where this magical 65k quote and design was, he told me that he spoke to Jimmy and understood I wanted $2500 and then to terminate our relationship. I told him I still wanted that if they were agreeable. He said they were and I'd get the check within 2 weeks After 2 weeks I didn't get the check, I called Dollman, I spoke to someone else there, gave her the background and forwarded the emails. It was at that point I was told that Tracy was no longer with the company. That's a small victory. I had to followup again after Labor day weekend 2024 and they finally sent out the check, it's deposited in my account and while I'm not happy, I'm content. Beware of these dirty practices and keep your head on a swivel. Go with a company that doesn't require a design agreement. Get a detailed quote without that and go from there."

"Nothing but amateurs! I held this review because I was told, by somebody working for Crockett, that they were going out of business. I am not surprised that my relationship with them ended in a lie. We signed a contract to remodel our only bathroom. Initially they promised to complete the bathroom in two weeks. Not being naïve, I assumed it would take a month. One year later we settled without the bathroom really being complete. This project was marred by incompetence. The first crew had intra-crew drama that we got sucked into. After that, we never knew who was coming or when. Weeks would pass with no work. In the meantime, we had plumbing emptying into buckets, pipe stubs for taking baths but no functioning shower, and half-finished tile. One would think that a contractor with 40 years of experience would know how to set a traditional subway tile pattern. Not the case. Tile had to come off the walls three times (not to mention the time they put the wrong grout color in, tried to grind it out, and ended just scratching all the tiles). Same with the floor tile, which also had to be lifted three times. Incompetent mud and paint crews. This bathroom had to be tapped, mudded, and painted multiple times because the contractors apparently didn’t know how to mud and sand a smooth tape seam. They seemed incapable of getting the shower riser straight when I could clearly see the fix. They blamed the slow pace of supply chain problems. However, the contractor we hired to do our kitchen at the same time completed their work according to the agreed upon schedule--no supply-chain excuses there. They didn’t respect our house; we had sheet rock mud and paint on the floors and on our furniture. Drop cloths seemed to be an alien concept to these folks. In sum, if you want incompetent people tearing into your house, then, by all means, Crockett is for you."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Christiansburg, VA

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
