"Becky and her staff at Refresh Renovations went above and beyond for us. Our home flooded slightly during Hurricane Ian. A friend recommended her, and I called her on the Saturday immediately after the hurricane. She found one of her staff who was willing to come out as an independent contractor to remove our baseboards the next day! So, after the official water mitigation, we got an estimate from her on the build-back work and some other painting we had been putting off. She managed to fit us in very soon so that our house would be livable. The workmen were also very good—knowledgeable, careful, and thorough. They put in long hours to get the job done, and we couldn’t be more grateful. There were a couple of hiccups, as there always are, but Becky and foreman Oscar got right on them and took care of it."

"Getting close to finish. Have gotten very close to Keith and his guys. They are reliable, conscientious, cost conscious, fun to be around and very capable. They handle everything. I total trust them and I'm so glad I found them. They were the first company I called off Angie's list and never talked to another company. Keith is an incredible guy who has overcome a lot to get to where he is. I can assure you if you are looking for a reliable and honest contractor you have found them. I'm more than happy to speak to you if you have any questions. My cell is 863-409-1316 and my name is Al Jarrell"

"After reviewing  2 other contractors, I chose Stellar Designs to handle my project.  Josh met with me at my home several times to discuss the details, and meticulously measure the space. Once all of the materials arrived, Josh and his crew completed the demo and installed wood flooring in the kitchen, family room and hallways.  Tile flooring was installed in the 2 baths and laundry room. Stellar Designs also installed new cabinetry in all spaces, as well as the tile backsplash, and tile in the showers. They were courteous and worked well with the other trades (electricians and plumbers). While in my home, Josh and his crew went above and beyond to make sure we were pleased with the end result.  I am an Interior Designer and have worked with a number of contractors over the years.  I highly recommend Stellar Designs to execute your remodeling projects. <br />"

"I have never worked with a more fair, honest and detail oriented contractor than Dager Construction. Ron is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain things in detail. His estimate was straight forward and very detailed showing exactly where every cost was associated with. Not only do I have full trust in his numbers and estimates, but with his work as well. He treated my home as if it were his own. Even after the job was finished, if I had any issues, he would help me with it. I will use Dager construction from now on and will recommend them to everyone!"

"They removed old flooring, leveled the floor, installed new floor and molding. Ability was easy to work with for scheduling the project. Technicians were highly skilled and did a fantastic job. Floor looks and feels like real wood and should be impervious to dog accidents and such. I am very pleased with the outcome of this project and would use Ability for future projects."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Christmas, FL

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
