"This is a truly great company. They provide great customer service and spend time explaining the details and answering questions. My husband obsessed about every single detail and could not deny that it was a no brainer. Our first electric bill since installing the panels was a CREDIT! I was not expecting that. If you have ever considered solar, seriously, just do it. Long term, you can not go wrong."

"Midwest Electric was out to install a new circuit panel, update some outlets and install carbon monoxide/smoke detectors. Terrific experience from beginning to end. Very professional, friendly, showed up on time. Cost was very reasonable. Will hire again for other electric needs."

"A bedroom light-ceiling fan combination was shorting and wired differently than our other room fans.  Previous experiences with Cady Handyman made it an easy decision on whom to call for service.  I was able to a get a repair appointment-- at a time that works for someone with a day job-- within three days of calling.  Though the old amateur wiring job was a mess, Tom thought through the repair and had it done to expectations in reasonable time (including a trip to the hardware store for parts)."

"Mr. Hal Morris was responsive, detailed and kept us informed of the project. He provided us with a plan, followed through and answered our questions. He was also open to trying new material, copper, to the lattice panels. He also was so kind and installed four steel hooks so we could hang additional plants."

"Excellent service and professional staff. Completed work according to contract and did so in a timely fashion. Would never hesitate to call them again or recommend them to family and friends. They also took care of contacting inspectors and getting us a rebate from the electric company."

"Paul Landmann responded promptly to my request for a proposal, having been highly recommended by another service provider. The project was carried out on schedule, and the results are excellent. Replacement of back porch decking was in addition to the original proposal and was accomplished on a time and materials basis. Paul and Kelly were courteous and friendly, made appropriate suggestions, were very accommodating when asked to make small changes, worked steadily and were very attentive to detail. While I could probably have found someone to do this project for less money, I believe in the old adage, ''You get what you pay for,'' and the impressive results confirm this. I saved $600 by doing some demolition work myself, and Paul included some materials at no charge. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this small company without reservation and would definitely hire them again."

"The salesperson was clear (mostly) and the work was done on time and well -- finished in one day and cleaned up very well. My one caveat is that the salesperson clearly stated that the work would be done by a local contractor, which was, I guess, technically true, since it looks like a local contractor subcontracted to a group of men (Polish or Russian) who drove up from Chicago and did the work. I was led to believe it would be done by local workers so that was a bit off-putting"

"Company was great, owner went over everything, was attentive and answered all questions. He came up with great solutions to work in a quirky area on a older house. Crew was hard-working and cleaned up great after completing the project. Purchased services through a deal on Angie's list and the owner worked with me to make the most of the pre-purchased amount of time."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Cleveland, MN

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
