"Jerry the service man was very understanding and took his time. He check every thing from the stink pipe on the roof to drains in the basement. He asked me a lot of questions which help us figure out what to do. One of my floor drains isn't holding water so he installed a test plug. This did help. I appreciate the company not trying to push a big plumbing job on me. I still get the smell when it rains, but I now know what to check for thanks to Jerry. When I have them come back I can be more specific as to where to check. Cost service call and part $115."

"We had installed a water back up with alarm on our sump pump along with a new discharge through exterior wall into overflow. Excellent work done by Connor. He was very professional, courteous, and knowledgeable. He answered our questions in detail & we highly recommend Shelby Mechanical for any plumbing jobs. Our phone calls were handled by Erin who set our appointments and answered our questions with quite impressive plumbing knowledge. We will definitely use them again."

"They lowered the toilet and got a new flange for me. They gave me a $20 discount from the church paper. They were good and fast about the repair, but I feel the price was a bit. They were here right on time the next day. They also covered their shoes when they came in the door."

"The screws in the overflow plate in my tub had rusted and broke probably over a year ago. I hate having workmen in my house, so I put it off until my kitchen faucet split and made using my portable dishwasher impossible. <br /> I called LPS Plumbing on a Monday or Tuesday morning. The woman I spoke with was incredibly friendly. If I had to judge a company based on the first person I spoke with, she would definitely earn LPS an and quot;Aand quot; right off the bat! She was friendly, professional, yet very down-to-earth. I felt like she understood what it was like to be in my shoes. It sounds stupid, but it really put the company in a good light immediately. <br /> The earliest I was available was on Thursday (a couple days after I called), which was available for them, as well. On the scheduled workday, the plumber arrived on time. I showed him what I needed done, he inspected the overflow valve for a bit, then went to buy some supplies. When he came back, he went straight to work. He was also a very nice, very professional guy. A great representative of the company, much like the woman I had spoke with earlier in the week. I tied my large dog outside (which I do anytime I have workers in the house) and he whined and/or barked whenever I was out of his sight. I felt comfortable enough with the plumber that I sat outside to calm my dog the majority of the time that he was there. I usually never do that!! I usually hate leaving people alone in my house. But I couldn't take my pooch's whining!! <br /> He put in a new overflow plate (similar to the one that was broken), and put in a more modern drain plug. I had already purchased the faucet for my kitchen sink, so he just needed to install it. All in all, he may have only been here 2 or 3 hours. I am completely happy with both the faucet and the new drain. And the price completely floored me!! The last plumber I called out (NOT THIS COMPANY) unclogged my kitchen sink and charged me $300!! I would highly recommend LPS Plumbing!! And I will definitely use their services in the future! I am pretty confident in saying that they will be the only plumbing company that I will use from now on!! <br />"

"I had originally called them for an estimate before I started the project because I thought we might have to trench the basement to run a drain line. A plumber came out and looked at the job and suggested simply tying into an existing drain which was in close proximity to where the bar was being built. Once I knew how the plumbing would be configured, I started on the construction of the bar. <br /> I called again when I was ready to install the pipes and bar sink. They set up an appointment, but had to postpone because they had a and quot;big joband quot; elsewhere. This wouldn't have been a problem except that we had already set a date for our grand opening of the bar and sent out invitations. They ended up installing the pipes and sink on a Tuesday, the week of the party, which was scheduled for Saturday. A little close since I had to install cabinets and counter tops. <br /> We have copper plumbing in our home, so I assumed (my bad!) that they would be installing copper pipes to the bar sink. When I saw the plumber bring down red and blue PVC tubing, I asked about copper, and he said it would cost a lot more than the original estimate, and take more time. The lesson here is and quot;ask a lot of questions and be sure you know what materials and labor the estimate includes.and quot; <br /> The plumber had to drill through the knee wall of my brand new bar to run the drain pipe. I knew this would have to be done, but I was apprehensive about it anyway. He took great care in getting the hole placed where I wanted it and didn't damage the bar anymore than was necessary. Although there were a few surprises and things I might have done differently, overall, they were professional and did a nice job. <br />"

FAQs for plumbing installation for a remodel or addition projects in Clinton Township, MI

Adding bathroom plumbing to a detached garage starts with the basic line installation cost of $900 to $1,300. On top of this base expense, you'll need to budget for each fixture. A toilet costs  $250 to $550, sinks cost $150 to $800, and a shower or bathtub costs $400 to $1,900. The project will also require ventilation, moisture-resistant materials, and possibly electrical work. Remember that these costs reflect only the plumbing aspects—additional construction, finishing, and permitting expenses will apply to complete a functional bathroom space.

While certain aspects of garage renovation might be suitable for DIY enthusiasts, plumbing installation requires professional expertise. Connecting to water and sewer systems demands specialized knowledge and equipment, and improper installation can result in severe water damage, code violations, and potential health hazards. Most municipalities require permits for plumbing modifications, and these often stipulate that licensed professionals must perform work. Consider limiting your involvement to simpler tasks like painting or basic finishing work.

The timeframe for adding plumbing to a detached garage spans one to three days for the actual plumbing work. However, this represents only the active installation period. The complete project timeline must account for planning, obtaining permits (which can take weeks depending on your locality), coordinating multiple contractors if needed, and addressing any unexpected challenges that arise during installation. Weather conditions can also impact excavation and outdoor connection work.

Adding plumbing to a detached garage will likely increase your property taxes. Tax assessors consider plumbing an improvement that enhances property value and functionality. The specific tax impact varies by location and project scope. Converting a garage into living space with plumbing facilities can trigger significant reassessment in many jurisdictions. Before proceeding with your project, consult your local tax assessor's office to understand the potential tax implications and factor this ongoing expense into your decision-making process.
