"Total Electric is the definition of dependable. Rather I need switches replaced, a whole house wired, or anything in between, they are prompt and professional. "I bought the $299 for eight hours deal, but my hubby had all the contact with them. He said when he called to make the appointment, the female was very nice and set the appointment up when he wanted it, which was at 10 a.m. Someone called yesterday to remind us of the appointment and told hubby that it was $75 extra if they had to go into the attic. Hubby called me at work to see if I knew about this, and I told him I did, but I didn't know if they needed to go into the attic. This morning (Jan 22), when hubby got back from the post office at 9:15 a.m., they were waiting in the driveway, an hour early. He brought them in and they went to work. We were having electrical problems with some outlets not working, and the light over the sink and in the garage not working at all. According to the receipt, they ran line to the patio for two outlets and a ceiling fan, as well as installing the outlets. They ran a new line to the garage. They installed some new breakers in the panel. Hubby said they were professional and quick, and were done at 11:15. Hubby had bought wire and a couple of outlets. The electrician used all of it, plus some of his supplies, so we  paid another $204.60. Everything is working now, except for one outlet which was hard to get to. I think if I had been home, I would have found some more things for them to do, because they were there for only two hours. But, as of right now, they did a good job.

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Coal Hill, AR

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
