"Hello, my name is Carmelita Di Mery. I am writing a review on Ramos Drilling and Water Treatment owned by Dave Ramos out of El Paso, TX. Mr. Ramos was contacted by me after reading great reviews from the Angie's List website. I was looking for someone to come and assess the poor water quality at my parents' home in NM. My parents live in the country and use water from a well pumped from deep within the earth off their property. My parents had a water softener installed many years ago, but never did keep up with the maintenance of the system. It looked great with many fancy and large canisters and tanks. It seemed to do it's job at first, but due to neglect and years of un-keep, the water quality started to deteriorate. We started to notice massive amounts of sediment in the bottom of drinking glasses after the ice had melted. Also noted was the massive amounts of lime-scale build up on glass shower doors and pipes as well as the popping sounds coming from the water heaters located in the home. The water seemed "dirty", and I was concerned for the safety and well-being of my elderly parents, pets, and anyone who was consuming the water coming out of the pipes. In addition, it was very noticeable how dry your skin felt after showering in the home. I knew that the water needed to be fixed. I found myself looking for sales professionals who could fix the issue at my parents home. I came across a review here at Angie's List talking about Mr. Dave Ramos and his company "Ramos Drilling and Water Treatment". Specifically, what caught my eye was the fact that he was very knowledgeable and adept in well-water systems. That is exactly what I needed! Someone who could work with softening water that came naturally from the ground! I called him and set up an appointment for him to come and assess the situation. I was so very impressed with him when he came out. He was extremely polite and professional and proceeded to explain the whole system that we had in place. Apparently, the former system was set up wrong and too small for the output of water on our property. Mr. Ramos explained in great, scientific detail how a water softening system works and even set up his own miniature version of the real tank system. It was a real science experiment! Mr. Ramos was able to demonstrate our current water situation based on our old and outdated (and unkempt) filter. I was SHOCKED!!! The water that the family and the pets were drinking, cooking with, bathing in, and all household chores was DISGUSTING!!!! I had no idea that this was the water that we had been using for so long! The water was filled with massive amounts of sediment and "rock" as he called it. The rock particles are microscopic so it was never noticed as such during the dispensing process, but clearly noticed in a glass of water at the bottom of the glass after the ice had melted. It looked like a flurry of white sludge. So gross, I never drank this portion because I thought I would clog my kidneys. Mr. Ramos used a miniature set up of his system to "clean" the water that came out of the kitchen faucet. I could not believe my eyes of our untreated water versus his system! When I compared the 2 vials of water he produced, I could not find any sediment in his treated water compared to what the kitchen sink was producing. I knew that nasty water was what we had been using for a long time using our old system! I had to have his system. I purchased immediately, and I set up a date for install! Mr. Ramos came out and completely re-vamped the whole system including pipes and tanks. His work is absolutely impeccable and perfect! The tanks and pipes were installed with such great precision and care (completely leveled and BEAUTIFUL)! His attention to detail is amazing. He even talked to me about how to regenerate the system away from pecan trees so as not to damage the existing flora of the property. We came up with an ideal solution, and the system is working wonderfully. It has been many months now that we have had the new system. I can honestly say that his system is producing the best tasting water I have ever had, even better than bottled water. The ice-cubes are so clean that you can see through them now, and there is no more nasty sediment in the bottom of drinks that use water or ice from the home. I am amazed!!! Also, as an added bonus, the household appliances have started to clear from the lime-scale build up, and the water heaters are not "popping" anymore. The water is so soft it feels like you are bathing in lotion and your detergents go further. The water is so soft, it is SLIPPERY. "when tech showed up the dryer seemed to be working and heating however it did not when I called, seemed the heating element was cracked creating and off and on working condition. I went ahead to repair the problem by purchasing a new heating element. I was surprised however that the tech expected me to pay in full before he ordered the part and repaired the problem, but I did using my credit card knowing if there was a issue the credit card co. would have my back, The part was order and Alex fixed it as soon as it came in and was great"

"Guest bathroom toilet was leaking pretty severely after an influx of houseguests.  Got a very quick appointment from Marathon.  It was necessary to replace the whole thing since the tank was cracked.  I let them know that financially I couldn't pay a whole lot for the new unit.  They were very considerate and found a nice new unit for an excellent price and installed it in a short time.  Advised me on repairing the damage to wall and floor caused by the leaking.  Very professional and pleasant. <br /> I called Marathon because the previous summer they had helped with another major ($1200) plumbing problem originating in garage. <br />"

"The kitchen and bath were simple for the repairman. Both now drain extremely fast. The washer drain was a different story. The rubber hose holder that sits atop the drain had been pushed down to the p-trap and wedged in so tight that the whole drain had to be cut out since the plumber, Beau, was going crazy trying to figure out what could be wedged in there since he could not break through the plug with his drain clearing tools. After he repaired the drain he commented that there was no other alternative to clear."

"The motor on my well pump went out. High end costs from some companies could have ran 4000.00. They however pulled the pump examined it told me what I needed and didn't try sell me anything I didn't need. Cost a fraction of what it could have. They also provided me with a tutorial on my well system at no extra charge. Good group of people. <br />"

"The workers arrived on time, removed our 15 year old equipment , which leaked and used the obsolete R22 coolant. They installed a new higher efficiency Trane A/C & furnace system. The work took two days consecutive days. They also installed a new hot water recirculation pump that I purchased on-line. Another contractor who provideed a bid refused to do that service with equipment that they themselves did not provide. Davis the Plumber did a great job with the installation, and gave me two extra pleated air filters, which they recommended over the old filament spun E-Z Flow filters. There was a problem with the new thermostat programming, but they returned to fix that the same day. They also came back a few days later to provide free screening (magnetically attached) for the outside A/C unit to help keep it clean in a high dust and plant debris area. I obtained bids from 4 different contractors and they came in at the lowest. They also provided a 5% Angies List discount on the new system. Another contractor who unsuccessfully bidded on the system also advertised an Angies- List discount, but arbitrarily capped the amount at $200. Davis the Plumber provided the full 5% discount that they advertised. The Trane system installed is rated at 16 SEER for the A/C and 96% efficiency for the furnace, qualifying for hundreds of dollars in rebates from both PNM and NM Gas. The Smart thermostat installed also qualified for rebates from those companies. Davis the Plumber did offer a 17 SEER A/C option, but it was not cost effective. I determined that using a SEER energy savings calculator at the following site: [*** Link removed ***] My neighbor ( a retired engineer) subsequently commented on how much larger and quieter the new outdoor A/C unit is over the 15 year old Rheem equipment it replaced. He also was impressed with the Trane historical reputation for quality equipment, indicating their slogan was "Its hard to stop a Trane". I highly recommend both this company and the Trane equipment to anyone considering a new A/C & Furnace system."
