"The first HVAC contractor (a national chain) I had in to look at my central A/C diagnosed the air handler's fan blowing backwards as a result of a lightning strike scrambling the circuitry. (I told them about the lightning strike in the interest of full disclosure.) This other contractor said it likely needed a new fan but because of the strike they would not repair it.
