"Excellent! We needed 4 Timber Retaining Walls that were jointly owned by 6 households (10 people) torn down & Replaced with Stone Retaining Walls. (Not an easy feat with multiple households, one being out of state for an extended period.) However, the paperwork was managed easily by A & J Excavation. All signatures were obtained electronically and work was able to begin. At the jobs completion, everyone was extremely pleased with the quality of the work. Several of us intend on using then again next year for other projects on our homes. Honest, great prices, quality materials, excellent finished product, a 1 year warranty, and easy to work with. What more could you ask for?"

"The coordination between the Driveway Lady and her partner/husband was not good. It felt like she was making promises and he was trying to cut corners. He tried to skimp on landscape fabric and on rolling (compacting) the stone until I insisted otherwise. I discovered after they left that his men had dumped about a ton of our old gravel base in the arborvitae bushes that line the far end of our long driveway. They also spread the stone unevenly, so that now, just a month later, weeds are coming up in some spots. While I personally like these people, I would not recommend them."

"This is the second time we've hired John. He's responsive, punctual and very easy to work with. He cleans the work area daily and his work is impeccable. Before installation of the brick, he had to remove a Corian backsplash. This was his first brick backsplash and we couldn't be happier. In terms of cost, I couldn't tell you if he's high, low or average because he's' the only person I called. Also, the first time we hired him, about 4 years ago, he installed a porcelain tile floor which garners compliments all the time."

"George came out personally to give me a quote for installing a top coat of 2" of asphalt on my existing asphalt driveway, which was wavy and had a number of dips and holes in it. The morning of the install, George's crew showed up early and got to work. They were clean and very well organized, and the final product looks terrific. I finally have a flat, properly sloped driveway!"

"Chris did an excellent job. He was prompt in communication and responses to my messages. The pointing was done quickly and well, and there was not a trace of debris left in my yard. I would absolutely hire Chris in the future."

"G&B recently completed a driveway, sidewalks and patio with fire pit for us and it turned out beautifully. George offered several helpful suggestions for choosing the right color and stamping pattern to really tie the project in with the house. These extra details are why we chose G&B above the others. The crew was prompt on completing the projects as well as courteous and mindful of our neighbors during the job. Highly, highly recommend for any concrete needs."

"Looked at my property on 3/24/2014. I needed a price on cleanup and mulching and grass cutting. He quoted $40 a week for grass cutting and $100 for cleanup which involved removing some shrubs which had become too big. Both were reasonable prices in line with other estimates I had received. The mowing included trimming the flower beds (extensive) every other week. <br /> On 3/28 I called to say I would like the to do both & to please call me next week to discuss particulars. <br /> On 3/29/2014 My regular mower finally got back to me - I thought he had died - so I called Eckert and told them I did not need them to do the mowing but would still like to do the cleanup. They said they would determine a time when they could come out and get back to me.  <br /> On 4/9/2014 I saw their truck around the corner doing work but they had not gotten back to me so I hired Behmerwald and they took out the bushes and then did some major mulching work and are putting in a stone path and doing more major mulching this year. So you never know what a $100 job can turn into and I would suggest that it is worth getting back to someone and be honest and just say that you aren't interested in just doing the $100 part. <br />"

"We were supposed to inspect our granite and decide how we wanted our countertops layed out. We visited Absolute and were told that the granite was not at their warehouse so we could select how the granite should be cut. We had paid a $500 deposit months before to hold the granite. When informed that the granite was ready to install we were told that we had to find someone to install supports on the bar top before the granite could be installed (10 inch overhang needs support). Absolute provide no assistance with this until we forced the issue. Absolute told us it was our problem - they only install the granite. The installers were fine however they told me that the supports for the bar top were not the preferred supports and the bar countertop had to be installed with shims under the bar top to make it level. This could have been avoided if Absolute also installed the supports for the bartop - they are the granite experts - not me - the homeowner. Installation was OK but the finish of the granite surface has many small holes and defects and in some areas are rough. Research informed me that the granite surface was not finished properly because the surface should be smooth. Overall I was not happy with the service or product from Absolute. I had another granite countertop installed when I lived in another state and the finished product and service was much better."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Collegeville, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
