"I recently hired AAB Electric for some electrical work, and I am extremely pleased with the results. They installed recessed lights and ceiling fans in my home, and the entire process went smoothly. The team was timely, arriving right on schedule, and very friendly, making the experience even better. The installation was done to my complete satisfaction, and everything looks and works perfectly. I will definitely be using their services again in the future and highly recommend them for any electrical work."

"Greg showed up - precisely on time, first thing in the morning, I might add - and went right to work. He explained how hyrdostatic pressure works against concrete and advised that the hole may not be source of the water after all, or at least not the only source. He told me how I could repair it myself, easily and inexpensively, with injection concrete. He was straightforward in saying it might not get the job done, though, and explained what would be involved in digging out a well for a sump system if the water returned. The estimated hassle and price was far less than I was expecting to hear, and if I need future help, I will definitely contact A Better Crawlspace to do the work. After spending half an hour explaining everything to me, Greg wouldn't accept any payment because he hadn't done any work. I was floored by his candor and honesty, It's a rare thing to find a company that won't rook you for a job you may not even need, and then walk out the door none the richer for sharing valuable experience. Overall, a great experience and a quality guy. Thanks, Greg!"

"Sent salesmen, not roofers, to provide the quote. Did not get up on the roof to measure or inspect it. The quote was very, very high. We received follow-up calls and literature. One of the callers insisted that Sears was lowering its prices. and wanted to send another salesman out to my home; I refused, but I asked for Sears to send a revised quote in the mail, which I never got. From my perspective, this was basically a "hard sell.""

"

Mr. John Sherlock arrived at the time and date specified to give us an estimate.  He returned the following day with his assistant and performed the job in one day.  He installed 26 copper lightning rods on the flat roof of our 7,000 square foot home.  These rods were connected with 500 feet of heavy duty copper cable and were grounded at three points with ground rods going down through the drainpipes into the ground. All parts of the system were securely attached to the roof.  He did a neat job and cleaned up all excess materials.  We were very pleased with the job him did.  Since installation of the lightning rod system we have had no trouble with lightning striking the house or causing power outages or surges.

"The last was a rental company that we have and we used them for an air conditioning and heating system. It was Bototach Mechanical. It’s been a good program for us. They’re very responsive. I don’t know what the thought process was. My husband said, well let’s try these guys and so we did. We have an older home and it’s proved to be a very good deal. The quality has been pretty good, so I would give them an A for the quality. I will give you one helpful hint though. If the company decides they want to replace an appliance, you need to call them and negotiate with them because you can upgrade, but you need to talk to them in person not just do it over the internet."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Coloma, MI

Yes, a licensed electrician is essential for this project. Running an electrical service from the road to your house involves connecting to utility power lines, complying with national and local electrical codes, and safely handling high-voltage systems.

Licensed professionals understand proper wire sizing, grounding requirements, and voltage drop calculations needed for safe installation. Most jurisdictions require permits and inspections that only certified professionals can obtain. The safety risks and potential for property damage make this project inappropriate for DIY attempts.

Overhead installations are less expensive than underground options. For a 1000-foot run, overhead service costs between $8,000 and $15,000, while underground service ranges from $10,000 to $25,000.

Overhead lines require less labor and fewer materials since they don't need trenching or conduit. However, underground lines offer better protection from weather events and aesthetic benefits. Your decision should balance your budget constraints with long-term reliability and visual preferences.

You might need to upgrade your electrical panel depending on your power requirements. If your existing panel cannot handle the additional load from the extended service, upgrading to a 200-amp service (costing $750 to $2,000) may be necessary.

A licensed electrician can evaluate your current system and determine if an upgrade is required. Factors include what you'll be powering at the end of the line, existing electrical demand, and whether voltage drop over the distance will affect performance.

Running electric service from the road to a house requires electrical permits from your local building department, costing between $500 and $2,000 depending on your location. You may also need excavation permits for trenching work if installing an underground service. Your utility company will have its own application process for connecting to its grid. A licensed electrical contractor can handle all the necessary permit applications as part of their service, ensuring your installation meets all local code requirements.
