"I've done my fair share of remodels and renovations and have worked with a variety of contractors and sub contractors. Cavalier was by far the best I have worked with thus far. They were on time, under budget and provided impeccable service. They showed up every day, full crew and were responsive to every communication I sent. Now when have you ever experienced that?!?!? HIGHLY recommend."

"Overall the project was fantastic, and Seth was great to work with. From taking the concept my wife had, Seth drew up a plan with everything she asked for, and we were able to scale back where needed for budgeting purposes, so he helped us rework from the original design to where we ultimately landed. Timing - he began on time, and finished early. Project lasted a total of 5 weeks. Budget - he was spot on to the original budget. We did make changes to some items, and he kept a running change list that was helpful to keep us on track. Team - The guys were amazing, and took exceptional pride in their work. I got to chat them up quite a bit, and they’ve been with Seth for many years - which was an awesome sign, because I’m guessing you don’t stay of things aren’t going well. They were here everyday from 7-3:30, and the few times that they weren’t, we had a heads up. We even got a heads up when it wouldn’t be the full crew. Communication - pretty sharp, zero complaints here. We knew what was going on, when it was happening, and Seth was here almost everyday for at least a period of time. Overall, they were great - and we will use them again for our front yard, hopefully sooner rather than later."

"To Whom It May Concern: It has now been well over three years and our kitchen remodel has never been completed. We have not been contacted in over 2 years regarding the completion. This remodel has been LESS than satisfactory. Listed below are our grievances: 8/31/15 - We discussed with the salesman, Ron, what we wanted in the kitchen and the price we could afford. He eventually agreed and we asked if he needed to see the electrical box or anything else. He did not. 9/3/15 – After the kitchen had been demolished and $5500.00 had been collected from us, Ron finally looked in the electrical panel box and decided an additional $6250.00 would be needed to upgrade the panel, install LED lights, which he had told us weren’t necessary, and to put copper pipes under the sink (which already had copper pipes). He refused to continue the work without an immediate payment of an additional $5000.00. 9/4/15 We arrived home on that Friday night to find chicken bones on the floor of our demolished kitchen and empty beer bottles in addition to garbage, paint, plaster, tools and more chicken bones scattered all over our driveway and backyard. (Pictures enclosed-#1) We called the company and were told they would come out the next day to clean it up and haul away the trash. Instead, they moved the trash to the side of the driveway, leaned it against our new redwood fence, and it remained there for 4 weeks. (see enclosed picture #2) - The choice of cabinets had to be done by text because THND had nothing to show us. They were then put in without approval and they were, in many cases, either wrong or missing. - A cabinet was place directly touching the stove, a fire hazard. It would not have been corrected had the “city inspector” not pointed it out. (see enclosed picture #3). - The awful molding at the top of the cupboards, which in many cases doesn’t fit, was not a choice, it just showed up. And it started separating from the ceiling 3 months into the remodel, and had to be re-caulked. - The painting was done by a very inexperienced painter who didn’t even have a ladder. He stood on two paint buckets to paint near the ceiling. - THND must not own any ladders or buckets because the men used ours, covering them with stucco and paint, and ruining a large bucket. - The light fixtures were completely closed BEFORE the inspector came. He was NOT pleased. Everything had to be opened up again for inspection. - Rather than move electrical outlets, notches were cut into the backsplash to accommodate plugs – a very shoddy and amateurish job. (see enclosed picture #4) - An outlet was placed under the sink next to a leaking pipe. Again, the inspector saw it and saved us from possible disaster. - After the installation of the $5250.00 new electrical box, our brand new stucco was repaired so fast and poorly that it didn’t begin to match the surrounding stucco in texture or color. We had to wait TWO MONTHS for a correction and a big mess was left on the steps and cement underneath. - During a heavy rainfall, a leak in the bathroom ceiling, right next to the newly installed venting fan/light exposed an uncovered electrical box with loose wires floating around. Alarmed at the shoddy work and danger of exposed, un-grounded wires, we called our own electrician to come and check the work done by your company. 2/24/16 – Our electrician opened the ceiling in the bathroom to look over the situation. He said it is illegal to hide a box in the ceiling as had been done. Plus, it hadn’t been grounded and the box had to be extended to bring it down to ceiling level. Since he had worked at this house in the past, he knew that the LED lights in the kitchen were new so he went up into the attic to see what else was going on electrically. He said there were two other boxes that had been covered up and weren’t grounded – one in the main kitchen and one in the laundry area. Since nothing had been grounded so far he decided to check the new plug by the stove and found the ground wires cut off and thus not connected. He had to take out the box, extend the wires and reconnect the whole thing. Along the way he noticed that the new electrical box outside had loose wires, disconnected wires and mislabeled circuits. As he was working on the plug by the stove he noticed that it was on the same circuit as the stove and the microwave – all labeled dishwasher. He said if we tried to run a toaster oven when the microwave was going we would blow the circuit. I’d be interested to know what the “dedicated” lines to the kitchen actually are. We paid an extra $4000.00 for them. We now had several holes in the ceiling that need to be re-plastered. The electrician said that if it had been done properly the boxes that were covered up would, instead, have been turned around and opened UP to the attic instead of burying them. As it is now, the boxes on the ceiling, even with decorative covers, are ugly and amateurish. 3/15/16 and 3/18/16 – your electricians returned to finish and check remaining work. Holes remained open in the ceiling of the kitchen, washer/dryer area and bathroom. An appointment to fix them was made and cancelled and then we never heard anything from THND again. 1/31/17 – A continuing leak in the bathroom ceiling, caused by the vent put into our new roof by THND, had to be repaired by our roof people. We paid for this. (see enclosed picture #5) 2/2017 – We had the holes in our kitchen, washer/dryer and bathroom ceilings repaired and painted. We paid for this. To say that we were disappointed with THND would be a gross understatement. We saved a very long time in order to be able to afford a kitchen remodel. We expected to be working with professionals but most of the work was at best, amateurish, and at worst, dangerously negligent."

"*******STAY AWAY******* BEWARE! I regret not taking the warnings from other Yelp reviews about this company more seriously. The 4-star Yelp rating had me put my guard down. I hired Kris to cement my fireplace hearth and it has been a headache at the tail end of our new construction build. The work they have done so far is subpar and they damaged everything that surrounds the fireplace hearth. They didn't properly prep around the floor before applying the sealant and got it all over my brand new wood floors and there are newly discovered dents and a large gash in the immediate area they worked in. They sanded some paint off of my metal fireplace enclosure due to poor prep work or lack thereof. All the adjacent walls are scraped up from their trowels. The edge and corner details are shoddy due to poor planning/prep and inattention to detail. The concrete finish is inconsistent, patchy, and it looks like poorly painted concrete. I tried to be patient and flexible to find ways to mitigate the issues until realizing that Kris is not owning up to the wrongdoings and has stopped returning my calls and text messages. So now I am here to echo the warnings from other Yelpers (and adding one of my own) in hopes to prevent other innocent homeowners from falling into a situation like mine: *******STAY AWAY******* BEWARE! TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!"

"It’s a shame to have to write a poor review on a company but its important to share the experience. We had Stoneshine remove some tile, grind, polish and stain our concrete floor. The work was decent. My challenge is in other aspects of the project. Starting out they called me and asked that I give them a $500 non-refundable deposit before they would send me a copy of the contract to execute. This is just flat our wrong. I was able to get a copy sent prior to paying a deposit but it required some back and forth with the company. Once I told them I was ok with the contract I had to repeatedly contact them to get a version to execute. I had to let them know that I would not let them start the job unless we had a fully executed contract. I also requested an unconditional lien release within 48hours of final payment. If you don’t know what that is search on-line about mechanics liens. You could pay your contractor and still me accountable if they don’t pay their employees. Protect yourself and your home. Don’t pay twice. Jazmin agreed to this and said it was part of the process. To date it has been a week since the job was finished and I can’t get her to respond or honor her commitment. Let’s talk about the job. The final product looks ok. The crew was pleasant and did what they said. The problem I have is that they aren’t very good at cleaning up after themselves. I have found four single edge razor blades in my flower beds, patio, and driveway. I don’t expect everything to be perfect, but I would expect them to take some care when it comes to cleaning up dangerous objects. Overall the experience was okay but I won’t use them for the second phase of my project. There are a ton of concrete contractors so I don’t feel like I should pay thousands of dollars and get an okay result."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Colton, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
