"North Peak did an excellent job. I am very happy with how wonderful my yard looks now that they did the fall cleanup. I would definitely recommend them. Price was very reasonable, I will definitely hire them again for my landscaping needs."

"We hired Driveway Specialists to do repairs to our driveway and to do a seal coat. I struggled with the rating here. If I were just evaluating them based on the quality of the work, I'd give an A. And the people I dealt with were polite and friendly. But my customer service experience with them was frustrating. I won't go into all the details here, but it boils down to this. They were at times difficult to get a hold of. Also, on ore than one occasion, I was told by them that a job would be done on a particular day or week, only to have them not show up when they said they would and not call or email to let me know or to offer an alternative. It should be a basic expectation that when someone says they're going to do work on Day X, they show up on Day X to work. And if they are unable to fulfill that commitment, they should contact the customer to let them know. On too many occasions, Driveway Specialists failed to meet that basic expectation of customer service. Reading the reviews on Angieslist, it is clear that others have had my experience, but that we are a minority. Most people seemed to have had great experiences with Driveway Specialists. I can confirm the high quality of their finished work . But my customer service experience with them was bad."

"Great experience! Love the finished product! We were connected with Harris & Co through the folks we were hiring to pave our driveway. Josh, the owner reached out to me to schedule time, he came up with a design that brought granite pavers and cobblestones together to finish the side entrance and where the garage meets the driveway that was better than I could have imagined. From there, he ran with ordering materials, meeting the timeline, getting the materials on site and bringing in quality guys to do the job. There was an issue with a drain pipe that was installed that would have impacted how the stones were laid and Josh identified and rectified it by adding a right angle to the pipe. That alone, showed that he genuinely cared about the quality and the customer satisfaction. We would highly recommend."

"I sent an email to Madrona Bros through Angie's List, and within a couple of days, I got a response. There was snow on the patio at the time (mid-February), but we set a date to get an estimate. On the date of the estimate, Marcelo Madrona (one of the owners) came well-prepared, with a book of options for patio designs. He listened to my concerns about the patio (wanting to extend it to support my rain barrel platform and fix the uneven pavers), took up a couple of pavers near the house to determine that the original base was just sand, and promised me an estimate within a few days. The estimate was very detailed, specifying the types of materials that would be used (concrete, hard pack, sand, polymeric sand) and depths of each material. After the initial meeting, I asked Marcelo to include an estimate for connecting the downspout to another on the house (which goes to a drywell on the property). He promptly adjusted the estimate, including in the proposal all of the details that we asked for (having the pavers relaid in the same pattern (we had asked for that in writing since when we had our front walk redone some years earlier, that contractor had changed the design without asking--we liked the original design better than the one we got)). We tentatively scheduled the work for 3 weeks, but weather intervened (more snow!), and he was able to get to the work on April 10. The team of employees that worked on my patio were the best! They were polite, didn't disrupt the neighborhood with yelling and/or loud music (something I've experienced with other contractors), worked diligently, cleaned up after the end of each day, and made my back yard look nicer than when they first came. From beginning to end, it was one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor. They spent half a day removing the existing pavers and stacking them. The second day was spent removing the sandy base and putting in the first layers of hard pack. They reset the granite step in 15 inches of concrete so that it has a stable base and will not warp the patio. The third day (the hottest day of the year so far) was spent in extending the drainpipe underground to meet another downspout on the house, starting to build up the base and compacting it soundly. The fourth day was cooler and rainy. On this day, they relaid the pavers and reassembled the fence. On the final day, they compacted polymeric sand into the joints to make sure that they got a good seal and spread topsoil and grass seed to repair the lawn damage that the heavy equipment caused."

"These guys are top notch in terms of quality, responsiveness, and integrity. We had a large and complex project that required installation of an underground drainage system, pavers, stonework, outdoor low voltage lighting and asphalt. Premier Pavers was always extremely responsive by email, phone and text. Their billing was professional and work was done in a timely way. When a couple of items weren't done to my satisfaction they re-did the work promptly and with no questions asked. Frankly, this is one of the best experiences I've ever had with a contractor. Premier took care of dealing with the subcontractors and with the city for the permits (the permitting was no easy task and required many calls to the city). They weren't the cheapest bid for the project but they weren't exorbitant either. I'm really glad I didn't go with the cheapest bid on this project."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Concord, NH

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
