"What a great company. We would recommend them to anyone who needed a home inspector. He was thorough and explained everything as he went through the home from what he was doing and why, to what he was seeing. The report we received was so detailed and thorough, very easy to read and had great pictures to show what he was describing in his report. He also recommended a Level 2 Chimney inspection which was definitely great advice since there was over $16,000 in repair work needed. I highly recommend this inspector."

"I originally called Andy to get a quote when we needed to get our house inspected fairly quick. After leaving him a Voice Mail he got back to me and provided me with a full detail explanation (over the phone) of what his service covered, how he went about doing the inspection and roughly how long it would take. This to me was very important when choosing him over any other competitors. He took the time to explain even PRIOR to him even getting the job. We setup the appointment for the next day. <br /> Andy was punctual, professional and ready to start the inspection by the time we got to the house. After some preliminary paperwork and some explanation (again - which I loved) of how we were going to tackle the day we started the inspection. <br /> He was very knowledgeable, explained and answered all of my questions and concerns and even suggested different ways as to how we could mitigate some of the things he pointed out if we decided to move forward with buying the house. <br /> We received our full report via e-mail in 48 hours as he had indicated we would and we are currently waiting for the lab results from the Radon testing. After spending 4 hours going over every inch, nook and cranny of the house we were extremely satissfied with Andy's service and would HIGHLY recommend him for anybody in need of a house inspection. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"As first time home-buyers, Chuck made the inspection process a pleasant one. I'm a bit of an anxious person who asks a gazillion questions in one breath. Chuck dealt with that better than most, he took the time to inform me of what he saw every step of the way. He arrived early, worked on the outside while we waited for the agent to open the house. He checked every room thoroughly, top to bottom, I mean this guy was like looking for any possible thing that could be wrong. This made me feel very secure of my investment in him and his time. The best part is he used the device to check for any signs of water leaks!!! my biggest fear is a water issue and mold, so this certainly put me at ease. I especially loved his reaction when he saw the foam insulated attic! he was so proud - and having an A Grade home inspector that proud meant everything to us!! he also set up the radon testing all reasonably priced. The report arrived within 24 hours, clear, coherent and professional. This guy is awesome, knowledgeable and we especially appreciated his fantastic sense of humor through the process. He is well-rounded and knows more than just home inspections, he knows the market and he brings all the right connections in Orange County, NY. Thank you Chuck!"

"Lance made the whole process seamless and worry-free. From discovery of my homes elevated radon levels through system installation and completion of post-installation testing I felt that I was in good hands at all times. The cost of work was competitive with other quotes I requested, but the personal attention and responsiveness I received was truly the most valuable part of my experience. It was also welcome to find a company that values innovation and stays current with latest technology. No other company I spoke with offered a rapid testing alternative with time-based readings of my homes recorded radon levels. Thank you Lance for putting my family back to ease."

"I was referred to John from Hometech NJ  by the first home inspector I called, who was going to be out of town on vacation the date we needed the inspection.  I figured if a competitor was willing to recommend John, he must be great.  He did not disappoint. <br /> John clearly loves his work and is happy to explain anything about the house you are purchasing in as much detail as you want.  As first-time home buyers, my husband and I know next to nothing about home construction.  His was extremely thorough, spending almost 5 hours inspecting our 2500 square foot house.   <br /> John was also happy to point us towards qualified specialists where he thought we might want to get additional information about the condition of our home (ex: plumbing, chimney).  He was very patient in walking us through the report (40+ pages with photos) and made excellent suggestions as to which items should be high priority for repair (very helpful in negotiating with the seller).  Overall an excellent experience."

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in Cornwall, NY

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
