"I had a great experience with Perry's roofing. My roof has spung a leak and needed replacement. I had a precise, professional quote within 48 hours. Once we went ahead with Perry's, we had a team on site by the end of the week, and the work was done in 1 day. 24 hours after the installation was complete, we had one of the worst thunder storms of the season. The new roof held beautifully. When I go to do my next roofing job, I will be calling Perry's roofing first."

"I hired King Quality only 2 weeks ago and within the 2 weeks they came to my home, gave me a price, installed the siding and left my house spotless. I was very nervous making the initial call but they put my mind at ease. It was a pleasure working with them from my 1st call into the office speaking to the ladies then speaking with Jeff to the crew foreman Billy. They definitely lived up to there name. I received King quality!"

"• TH was the single best home service I have experienced in the region in 48 years. Immediate response to my Niagra-Falls-in–the-living-room panic call. Next day I had an estimate with options for me so I could do the job on my very meager budget. A few days later, what seemed like an army of workers showed up at 7:00am and by 3:30 in the afternoon I had a new roof and there wasn’t any evidence that anybody had been here. Amazing. The job was done for $3000. less than a quote I had from another roofer three years earlier and offered a lifetime guarantee. (Makes selling the house down the road, much easier. I can transfer the guarantee with the house). This company is amazingly professional and comfortable to work with. • 7400."

"The men that came to my house were very professional. They did excellent work replacing my rotted trim boards and painting them without any mess on the deck. The installation of metal flashing around the deck was also done to perfection and there has not been any water damage or leaks since the work was completed. I have used them before to repair leaks around my skylights as well as new copper flashing and shingles around the chimney area. Before the men left they cleaned up after themselves making sure no loose nails or debris were left on the property. Their quality of work was exceptional."

"Contractor removed three layers of roofing shingles, replaced three boards of plywood roof sheathing, and installed new Timberland, lifetime warranty, roof shingles. Contractor hauled away all trash, old shingles, and roof nails/debris.
Contractor removed 11 vinyl replacement windows and installed 11 Andersen, new construction windows on the second floor of the house. Contractor installed flashing and capping where necessary. Capping installed professionally without dings.
Contractor removed and disposed of cementitious siding shingles on two-story, in-line, Hi-Ranch and installed styrofoam insulation and vinyl planks/cedar impression shingles.
Contractor removed and disposed of an attached, screened-in, enclosed, aluminum patio and installed an attached, 25 foot by 14 foot patio roof. Contractor removed and disposed of a sliding patio door and installed a Anderson, new construction, patio door.
Contractor installed a new wood awning over the side door of the house.
The Abstract roofing team were top-notch, professional, timely, and highly skilled craftsman. The price was the lowest of the three bids that I received for the project. The GC allowed several small changes to the contract plans without changing the price. Highly recommend Abstract Roofing  for any home improvement need.

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Cortlandt Manor, NY

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
