"Pride paving is a great company to work for and who takes pride in their work. I worked as a project manager for pride paving and can say all the people I worked with are hard working and put 110% into their work in the field and while communicating with customers. You won't regret hiring them."

"I recently partnered with Santa Monica Remodeling / 4 Seasons Remodeling to bring my Glass & Flow design to life. As a designer, I am incredibly particular about how light and air move through a space. This project focused on maximizing the Santa Monica coastline through open glass and organic transitions. The crew was professional, punctual, and?most importantly?detailed. They managed the complexities of the 4 Seasons parent company resources while providing the local expertise Santa Monica projects require. My "homes that breathe" philosophy was executed perfectly."

"These days, it’s not so easy to find a contractor who runs an operation that is solid, effective, and fair from top to bottom. Fortunately, I found one. Henry Guttierez has built a landscaping contractor service that runs like clockwork. His wife, Anna, runs the business side of things so Henry can give complete focus to the jobs. Crews are efficient, don’t waste time, and work together well. He charges a fair price, not too much, not too little, which is exactly what you want. And, any amounts that were added were completely expected and thoroughly discussed in advance. The communication was great, and the few times that there was a delay, I always had a very good idea when they were coming next. Honestly, hiring a contractor of any kind rarely goes so smoothly. If you have aspirations for your own landscaping, you really need look no further than California Custom Landscape."

"We could not be more pleased with the work done by Falcon Construction! The owner, Val Mataele, was accessible from the very beginning. He answered all our questions and addressed all our concerns in a thoughtful, patient, and professional manner. We knew from the outset that his exceedingly high rating on Angie's List was well founded and absolutely justified. His crew, headed by his very capable brother, completed the project in the time frame they had stated before they began. And the result? Well, it was amazing. The value of our home has been enhanced tremendously and we have a rugged, durable, and gorgeous parking section for our vehicles as well as another cosmetic section that is simultaneously strong and beautiful. Without hesitation, we would recommend Falcon Construction to anyone looking for peace of mind in the selection of a company specializing in the highest quality Concrete-Masonry-and Paving work!"

"Spoke to owner, Larry on the phone, sent pictures and short video. Josh came out to see, measure, advise and give formal quote. Very professional, courteous. Hired that day, scheduled work to be done within a few days, two day job. Crew moved all heavy items off surface. Took two days, as estimated and even came back a few days later (after seal dried and set) to put heavy items back. Very happy with a job well done and at a fair price. Will hire again with no reservations."

"Pros: Slick Sales Pitch Fancy Website Cons: Subcontracts ALL the work Heavy Overhead 1) Sales Manager (never seen) 2) Phone support ("Please wait for the next representative") 3) email support (answered only half of my messages) 4) Lots of text messages even though I said "No Texts". 5) Project coordinator (first one never showed); second one was onsite a total of 3 hours out of a total of 70 hours wall clock time that the crew was onsite The first crew spoke no English and I speak no Spanish. Crew began work destroying stuff a full hour before the "Project Coordinator" showed up. By then I was fed up with the crew and vice versa. They left. "Project Coordinator" said it was my fault because I insulted them. By now I had paid 2/3 of the project cost even though almost nothing had actually been done onsite. The second crew arrived the next day. "Project Coordinator" spent an hour with the crew and disappeared. I didn't see or hear from him for 6 days. The crew finished (after blowing a thick layer of concrete dust from the sawing operations all over everything) and left. The next day "Project Coordinator"  shows up for a "Final Inspection". It fails due to drainage problems. 3 days go by and the crew shows up unannounced to fix the drains. This time they pass. "Project Coordinator" sends yet another text saying he will stop by for final payment. But he never shows. He repeats this scenario a second time. I sent a message to the company asking for a different "Project Coordinator". The new guy (our third "Project Coordinator") shows up with the final paperwork but it is wrong. The amendments aren't included. We rescheduled for the next day. This time everything is correct. Good thing. I'm REALLY tired of the incompetence demonstrated by this company. If I had the name of the crew they hired, I could have hired them directly, bought the materials myself and reduced the cost of the project by 40%. But they say: You are covered by warranty and "Full Satisfaction Guarantee or your money back". Yes with all the typical "fine print" that effectively nullifies both."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Costa Mesa, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
