"Mr. Jim Gorman who is the owner of the business called me back within a half hour of my email posting. He visited my home 3 days later, inspected things, and told me what the approximate cost would be. He and his helper then installed an entire lightning protection system on both my house and a back garage/storage area. He did things exactly as I wanted in every way. Also threw in a free weathervane which increased the beauty of my home. I would have no objection to recommending this gentleman and his company to anyone who is in need of a competently installed lightning protection system for their home/property. MID-AMERICA LIGHTNING RODS is one fine company run by a man who cares about doing good work according to the latest safety codes etc. Having lost my previous retirement home to lightning, it was very important to me to get this job done and quickly because the thunderstorm season is upon us and with the climate change, those storms are very wicked, especially here out in the country where i live!"

"The strong storms that came through brought heavy lightning and thunder. There was a loud boom in the early morning which caused a surge that caused us to lose power in a portion of the home. We called Reinhold after my husband tried to troubleshoot and find the source of the problem. He explained everything in detail to the person he spoke to on the phone. He explained we were leaving on vacation and needed the alarm system working while gone. We can't say the office person really understood the seriousness of our situation as he scheduled the tech to come to our house at 1 PM in the afternoon. The issue with that is their day ends at 3:30 PM and then it becomes overtime which we soon learned.

Matt arrived and was very personable, courteous and knowledgeable. He and my husband walked through every room, checked every outlet, checked the panel, etc. and were almost at a loss to find the issue. Matt was the one who explained that their regular work day ended at 3:30 and that if he couldn't resolve the issue they would have to send someone else as he had prior commitments that evening which we understood. We were rather unhappy with the office staff who should have scheduled this first thing in the morning, but Matt was very determined to diffuse any frustration we had and continued right up to the last minute. To all our surprise, he heard something literally at the last minute, and on further inspection found 2 wires touching that were almost impossible to see inside a wall outlet behind a wall mounted TV. In spite of being past the time he should be off work, he finished the job to ensure we could leave on vacation and not have to deal with another service call. He saved us money, time we didn't have and was able to complete the repair in less than half an hour where he wasn't too late leaving.

Lesson learned for us is knowing the companies hours to ensure you are given an appointment that allows the time needed when it is a problem that must be isolated. Unfortunately we couldn't control the timing of a storm right before we were leaving town, but definitely recommend planning enough time for repairs when possible. Finding the culprit was the time consuming part of the service call, at least in our case, where the repair was not much time at all. We would still call Reinhold again for assistance, in fact we are considering adding some additional power outlets outside on our patio and some other minor upgrades.  Matt was great and we really appreciated his work.

"We called Anytime Electric to fix a ceiling fan we had up (if possible) or to replace with a new one if needed. Paul Garman did an excellent job. He had to cut two small holes in our ceiling. They were easily covered by two small rectangular plates matching our white ceiling. They are not noticeable. Other than that he ran a circuit from a closet containing our main panel to our kitchen above our stove.  In a previous visit to give us an estimate he also installed a new aluminum rated receptical in our bathroom for $154 parts and labor. We made 7AM appointments. His truck was standing outside in our parking lot by 6:45 AM both times.

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Larry was very nice when we started the process and stated he would work until we were satisfied.  We had an appointment to meet with him at the property on Dec 1st at 3:00 to look at the walls after we took down the wallboard and cabinets in the kitchen.   The reason we took them down was to save money on labor.  We waited about an hour and called him and got his voicemail.  We left a message and he called us back at around 4:30 saying that he had an emergency call.  It was frustrating to drive 35 minutes to meet him and not receive a courtesy call about the emergency job. 

He later needed to be reimbursed for materials purchased and when we asked for receipts, he said he used his stock at wholesale cost to save us money.

Here are some examples of his wholesale prices directly from the invoice:  

     20 feet of 10 gauge wire for 3 pronged dryer  = $160 (retail is less than $50)

     Paint for kitchen, living room, hallway & bedroom + primer:   12 gal at $20 per = $300 (12 x 20 = $240, not $300)

Other materials seemed higher after retail comparison.

The labor for the job was $800 more than the original bid without any prior notification until the final bill.

We met him and his wife at a public location for final payment and when we questioned the price increase, he got upset and said if we didn't pay his final bill, we would hear from his attorney.  So, we paid the inflated bill and left.

To summarize, the painting and trim work was very nice, but the repair was questionable.  When questioned about the ceiling repair, he seemed offended.  After reluctantly re-doing the ceilings, it turned out nice in the living room. .Just wish the same effort was used on the bedroom which didn't turn out as well.  The counter top and sink were installed well.  The washer/dryer hookup was ok.

I STRONGLY dislike making a bad review on anyone, but we just want you to be an informed consumer.   If you plan to use him, our suggestion would be to have him put on the original bid "materials will be reimbursed from receipts only".  

We've used many contractors from Angie's List, and this is the first bad experience we had.
