Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Johnson promptly responded to my request for a quote to install gravel and grade the material for my driveway. He even made a special trip to his supplier to give me quotes for several different types of gravel. The next morning he prepared the driveway for the installation. And after the delivery the same day he spread and graded the gravel and then finished raked the entire driveway by hand. I was very impressed with his quality of work. I highly recommend using this company. "

"We contracted Doc's Restoration to build a custom pantry cabinet for our kitchen to match the style of the existing base and wall cabinets. From our first call to request a quote to the final quality control inspection after installation, every step in the process was executed with the utmost professionalism and kindness. We love it and Doc's Restoration is first class in all aspects of their business. Prior to the cabinet project, my wife and I hired Doc's Restoration to perform handyman services on our recently purchased house and their performance was impeccable. We recommend Doc's Restoration without hesitation."

"I cannot say enough great things about Larry, his brother Carl and the rest of the guys. He started our job after we first talked to him 4 months later, yes that's a long time but if he could have started the following week I would have been more worried. He stopped by the house regularly or called to tell us how he was doing with his work load and when he would get to us! He started on Monday and has exceded our expectations even with me changing my mind along the way!! These men work hard, are polite and clean their job site daily. They're extremely knowledgeable about plants, irrigation and design!! They are a fantastic company and we would highly recommend them!!"

"Matt's response was swift. He came and assessed the work that needed to be done and gave what we found to be a fair estimate. Shortly after returning to his office he called back to inform us that he would lower the price because he found that he had a dumpster available for the rubble. As it was a relatively small project he brought an additional worker. Before starting the demolition they searched along the perimeter of the concrete for the presence of lines or pipes. After ascertaining that it was clear they proceeded to cut the concrete into smaller blocks in a professional and efficient manner. No cracks were created in the concrete that remained . They cleared the area of all debris and left it looking nice and clean. They even graciously consented to remove some broken stepping stones that were in the backyard. We were very impressed with their workmanship and the cleanly cut edges of the concrete. Now the landscaper can proceed to putting in sod as there was no appreciable delay because of the quick response. We will have a backyard to be proud of."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Crescent City, FL

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
