"I forgot to do this review but am glad I did because I am two years out having waterproofing services by this company. The drain and sump pump recommended by Robert Ellis is absolutely worth it. I no longer am anxious about weather forecasts because of the work done. Robert evaluated my home, gave me options and soft recommendations then allowed me space to make the best long term decision. Completely satisfied and would recommend."

"We had a SUMP PUMP installed outside a basement door to stop water from coming in door. There were a few â  rockyâ  moments with the 1st installer (& the dispatcher) but the owner of this company.. Pete Westera... stands behind his work 100%. & fixed everything with a second installer to exceed our expectations."

"Woke to realize that our sump pump failed during the night and water was quickly accumulating from the ongoing rain. Rema was the first to respond to my HomeAdvisor message. He was at our house with all of the required pieces and parts within the hour and had the sump pump replaced and most of the water drained within another hour. He was quick, courteous, professional and the cost for the repairs very reasonable. He was also helpful in making recommendations on restoration support needed. I highly recommend Rema."

"It went really well.  We noticed a slow leak coming into the basement from where the water line comes into the house.   We had a local plumber come out and evaluate the leak and he determined it was a cracked or broken  30 year old plastic  water line between my house and the water main for the neighborhood, which means it's my problem, not the county's.  Since this was going to be an expensive job, I used Angie's List to find another plumber for a second quote.  That plumber was Mahon and their quote, with the Angie's list coupon, was about the same price as the local plumber, but they also included in that price bringing the area the water pipe enters my house up to code and adding an overflow tank to the hot water heater to bring it up to code.  Plus, they arranged for the county inspector to inspect the work when done.     They did use PE line instead of copper (the local plumber would have used copper) but I looked at various plumbing sites on the Internet and it looks like PE pipe is a valid choice and easier to install.

Mahon Inc. is very responsive.  They had a guy out to my house within a couple of hours to look around and give me a quote.  He was able to give me a quote on the spot, and once I agreed, they arranged to be at my house 8am the next day.   They showed up with  5 guys, two trucks and a backhoe.    While waiting for Miss Utility, they gave me good suggestions like filling a pitcher of water for drinking and filling the bathtub with water to replace the water in the toilet after flushing - this was very useful advice!    They also did the inside plumbing while waiting for Miss Utility.
Everything went well - they had to dig two holes, one where my water line comes off the main feed  and one on the outside of the house where the water line enters the house.  There is a garden next to the house, so they moved the ground containing the tulip bulbs to the side so it could be returned later;   they tried very hard not to damage the plants.   The water was back on around 1pm and they left by 3pm.  They would have completed the job earlier except they had to wait for the inspector before filling the holes and moving the plants back into the garden.   Once the hole by the water main was filled they put down soil and seed and hay.      They were able to pull the old line out with no problems, but they had a torpedo or missile that they could have used to run the new line if the old line couldn't be pulled.  They did not need to do that, but it was good that they were prepared, and it would have not effected the price if they had used it.
They were easy to work with, knew what they were doing, and very professional.

"Thomas Reamer and Ramon Goard installed a sump pump and drain line and reinforced the waterproofing material. Very thorough in explaining the problem, solution, and showing us pictures of the process throughout. They worked steadily through rain and heat. Very impressed with them and their work."

"Installation went very well. Oct 25: Rob Figliozzi came out to evaluate the work needed and brought two workers to install the sink faucet and drain/trap. He determined what parts were needed for the tub/shower and ordered the parts. He texted me when the parts came in 3 days later and Chris Hanes came out to install. Chris is a very pleasant young man and did a great job with the installation, and Rob was very helpful and responsive. Highly recommend."

"My sup pump failed and they came out the same day. They replaced the sump pump and spent hours getting the water up. It was great they could get this all taken care of on a Saturday. They are just great. Reasonable prices and they are always good."

FAQs for sump pump or interior foundation drains installation projects in Crownsville, MD

Most residential pumps draw approximately 1,300 to 2,900 watts when they first start, then settle at roughly 800 to 1,050 watts during normal operation. The exact number depends on the motor’s horsepower and how often the float switch tells the pump to run. Even at the high end, the electricity cost is minor compared with the expense of cleaning up a flooded basement.

Grab a ruler and an empty 18‑inch‑wide pit. During a steady rain, time how much the water rises in one minute. Multiply that depth (in inches) by 60 to calculate gallons per hour, then add 50% for safety. If the result tops 2,100 gallons per hour—about 35 gallons a minute—you’ll need a 3/4‑horsepower unit. Anything lower, and a 1/3- or 1/2-horsepower pump should do the trick.

Loud rattling, constant cycling, or shuddering vibrations are the pump’s way of telling you it’s on its last legs. Musty smells, higher electric bills, and visible rust are other red flags. If the unit is 10 years old or older and exhibits any of these symptoms, replace it before the next heavy rain turns your basement into a wading pool.

You don’t have to hire a licensed plumber, but you should still bring in someone who installs sump pumps for a living—whether that’s a plumber, basement‑waterproofing specialist, or experienced handyman. They know the local codes, can wire the pump safely, and will test the system before they leave. Skipping professional help might void the warranty and could leave you with a pump that fails when you need it most.

Not every basement needs a pump, but if your home sits in a floodplain, has a high water table, or has ever taken on water during a storm, a sump pump is inexpensive insurance. For basements that only struggle with condensation or the occasional damp spot, sealing cracks and improving drainage may be all that is needed.
