"Pabai Moseray, Ibrahi Teiry, Alhasan Kamara were a professional crew explained what they were doing as they did it and were very careful while working in a finished basement. For future repairs would have them back"

"A bunch of different, seemingly unrelated, outlets and switches blew out in my house but tripped no circuit breakers.  The contractor who had remodeled my house two years ago had come over and checked all the suspect outlets and couldn't find the problem. The places were strange--outdoor lights, m/w, kitchen ceiling lights (rest of kitchen was okay), dining room chandalier, foyer and a basement light and one socket.  Most important was my garage door opener.  Go figure.
Murphy's sent out one electrician who spent hours and was as mystified as my contractor.  Although he got everything up and running the same things blew again that night which suddenly became a bigger problem since my car was trapped in the garage.
A master electrician, Dan, came out immediately the next morning and fixed everything in two hours.  I had gotten a $99 Big Deal (worth $200 in electrical work) plus paid an additional  $210.  I'm not sure exactly what $200 worth of electrical work means but I was happy to pay the money and know that my house was safe and that I didn't have to worry about any overloaded circuits. I was not charged for the first visit.
I told Dan in passing that my Internet had stopped working even though my router was blinking green and my laptop showed that I was connected.  This, however, didn't relate to what he was doing nor was the router outlet part of the chain of ones that tripped off.  But he couldn't help himself!  He messed with it a little bit (have no idea what he did) and suddenly I was up and running.  This would have taken forever on the phone with Verizon, they couldn't have fixed it and I would have had to make an appt with them.  He's a genius.  He knows "stuff".
When you use Murphy's be sure to ask for him.  If you're lucky you live in his territory.

"The whole process from our first walk through the model homes to closing and even the support afterwards has been so personal and much less stressful than it would have been without such talented, responsive, professional and capable leaders. The design center experience was so much fun despite the pressure of so many choices. The support and communication from our sale representative and construction manager throughout the building process was phenomenal. And now that we have moved in and are enjoying our new home, we continue to be impressed with amazing customer service and support. We can honestly highly recommend ANDRADE CONSTRUCTION to others and be excited for their journey. Huge thank you to MR. ABRAHAM"

"I am at fault for not activating their service until near the end of the year it was in effect.  My remodel kept getting delayed and delayed.  My initial contact was great from the Homemade Design contact person.  He assigned me  Amanda Z . We conferenced by phone for an hour after she missed the 1st scheduled phone conference.   I emailed photos of my preferences, room dimensions, photos of the room and filled out their online style questionaire.  She e mailed me a design.  A few months later, I did the remodel with MJM Cabinets.  Great assist there. We designed the Murphy bed/storage.  I emailed Amanda a question sometime before the start of the remodel.  Did not hear back from her for the months I was remodelling.  Finally she emailed that l was labelled  as Spam.  No ahswer to my months old design question.  Finished the project.  Amanda's contribution was the positioning of the murphy bed/storage unit and a reading chair.  Emailed her the photos of the room after the contractors left.  Asked her assistance.  She said no need.  That was it.  Got $29 worth of design."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Cumberland, MD

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
