"Our basement looks amazing and this is in large part to Mike and Dave's work. Mike was professional, courteous, always on time, and super clean. His work looks amazing and we are so happy with the result. He did the crown moulding around the ceiling and trim around the doors and floor, built us a bar-like area, opened a wall and completed a railing for our stairs, and did all of our tile work (shower walls and floor as well as bar area). In addition, he constructed built-in shelves in a giant closet that exceeded our expectations. We will refer him to anyone that is looking for carpentry or even tile work! So happy we found him!"

"They were local. They were timely and very personable. I called them after midnight and I received a call back early the next morning. I had an in-depth conversation with the owner of the company who asked me questions about my problem, which I liked. They scheduled something for the next day. The person came out and fixed the problem and was gone. I think I would hire them again."

"The ceiling repairs in the living room were not done properly, he left buckling at the joints. The bathroom repairs were done poorly, not smooth or flat. He did not clean up very much."

"I was very pleased with the way the work was accomplished and the boss and members of his crew would clean up after each day work. The work is of the highest qualitify. Did even better then I thought possible. My questions were answered and everything was accomplished. Would be happy to recommend him to anyone else. Always very nice and clean. And very professional. Am very happy with the results. Thanks Dave / Miliene"

"Jason did a fantastic job! He installed manufactured hardwood throughout the entire home (no more nasty carpet!) and put up new baseboard trim. He tore down a wall to open up the dining room to the living room, installed new light fixtures and fans throughout, and he completely renovated the bathroom; he tore out the rusty metal tub, replaced all of the drain work/plumbing, installed a fiberglass bathtub, and tiled the shower with porcelain subway tiles. Jason also laid porcelain on the floor, installed a new toilet, vanity, and exhaust fan!
Jason always showed up on time, was professional, and polite. He gave me options when it came to the different paths we could go, and gave honest feedback regarding price vs. quality. He let me go with him to pick out the supplies, and after the first couple times, I trusted him enough to pick what he thought was the best and I don't regret it a bit.
I've also had Jason come back to do work on the house since the remodel including coming out to look at my fridge that wasn't keeping my items cold/frozen. Instead of having to buy a new fridge (like I thought I would have to) he replaced the defrost thermostat which was less $100.00, including his labor.
So, not only does Jason do the remodeling/carpentry work, but he also does normal home repair and maintenance. He definitely gives the best advice, pricing, and does the best quality of work I've seen. I recommend him to everyone I know that needs a handyman!"

FAQs for wood stairs and railings installation and replacement projects in Dansville, MI

Pressure-treated lumber is the most inexpensive deck railing material. It's a cost-effective option that offers a good balance of durability and affordability for budget-conscious homeowners. Pressure-treated wood meets essential safety standards while keeping upfront costs low. In contrast, vinyl, polyurethane, and composite materials tend to be more expensive but offer additional aesthetic and maintenance benefits.

To calculate how much deck railing you need, measure the length of all the edges of your deck where railings are required (excluding any openings or areas bordered by the house). Since precise measurements are crucial, it's a good idea to hire a professional. Contractors have the expertise to accurately measure and install your deck railings.

In most cases, safety standards require railings on steps with more than four risers, steps wider than 44 inches, and decks over 30 inches high, measured from the next level down.

Railings should also be between 34 and 38 inches tall. Regulations can vary based on your location, so it's important to check your local building codes or consult a local contractor. There are also rules about the size of the gaps between pickets and between the bottom of the railing and the deck.

Before installing a railing on your front porch, you'll need to check local permitting requirements. Local building authorities may have specific codes that require a permit—or, in some cases, no permit at all. Reviewing your city's guidelines and consulting a qualified professional will help ensure your project meets all legal and safety standards, preventing any unexpected issues during inspections.

Deciding whether to repair or replace your deck railings depends on the extent of the damage and whether you can match new materials to the old ones. If you have minor issues, repair might be an option. However, when it's challenging to match existing materials, replacing the railings can give your deck a fresh start and reset its lifespan. A decking expert can assess your railings and recommend the best course of action to improve safety and maintain a cohesive look.
