"I called Rogers out because my AC unit had started freezing over. Brandon came out for the initial visit and explained what was going and that it appeared I had a leak somewhere in the line. He was very professional while visiting and I asked him to give me options for replacement since my unit was older. He presented a few options and explained the pros/cons to each and broke down the pricing very clearly for me. I never felt like there was a push for any of the choices, or for replacement overall, simply options of what was available and would make the most sense for me. When the installers came out they were both also very professional and very kind with my young children who were curious. They were very cautious not to track anything inside of the house and cleaned up every piece of paper and strip of wire when the left. The install was clean, everything was explained very well to my wife and I as far as features and operation, and we were overall very happy with the entire experience. They are new in our area, but we will only be calling them in the future."

"I would like to recommend Joshua Smith as a Tesla installer and overall electrician. He did a great job for my wife and I on the installation of our powerwall 3 and car chargers within our garages as well as trouble shooting some other electrical problems at our new home at Smith Mountain Lake. Additionally, he answers phone calls and shows up on time. Again, we highly recommend Joshua."

"Overall it was a pretty good experience as everything I wanted done, got done. Original talks with the “chat” function led me to purchasing a bunch of recommended items for my install. Once my full day electrician Dan had arrived, about 90 min passed the blocked time due to an additional service call he was scheduled for which had some issues, he immediately identified what I was informed to purchase was incorrect and got me on track and where we needed to be. He also mentioned my planned job would normally be a day and a half or two day event. This job was installing a sub panel in my shed to include running 180+ feet of thick 6/3 UF wire from the house panel to the shed. Providing dedicated circuits for my pool pump, French drain sump pump, and power for inside the shed to use for my tools and a shop light as well. I did help for the entire day and he really appreciated my hard work which made this a one day Job. I Couldn’t be happier with the work Dan performed and the Knowledge he has. Would have appreciated a little more accurate initial chat support so I didn’t have to make so many Lowe's trips, specifically the wire, which the correct wire was 4x the cost of the “suggested” wire. Final thoughts. If someone books a Full Day Electrician appointment, that assigned electrician, should not be taking service calls as he has a full day appointment scheduled. That’s poor Business planning and makes the electrician look bad if he’s not at the “blocked” call time. Dan made the event flat out awesome. Friendly, professional, and most of all a really hard worker. Super happy with the work he did and most of all, we got everything finished in one session like I planned for. Jason Nelson"

"I've been doing this job myself every 4-5 years, but it's a ton of work. This time I wanted to hire it out and switch products to something more durable than the oil stain I've been using. The house has been well-maintained, but was due. Marshall Painter is old school, and very experienced. He's been a log home builder for many years and knows his stuff. He came out very quickly to look at the job, gave me a quote on the spot and said he could start within a week or so. We talked about products, and he recommended one he'd been using for years with good results. A second company I called didn't bother to come out and look at the house, they simply had me send pictures, then quoted an obscenely high price - 3x what Marshall was asking. They were going to treat the house very aggressively, with a heavy power wash, followed by sanding the entire house. They even had a line item on the quote charging for travel time, and warned that if my well wasn't up to keeping their power washers busy I would have to pay for a water truck at $600 or more per day. To add insult to injury they warned me it could be as much as three weeks before they got time to quote the job, and 3-4 months before they could start work. In contrast, Marshall is a fan of being as gentle as possible when cleaning a log house. He's got products and processes that work for him and takes a cautious approach. I realized that some heavier stripping might be necessary on some of the less-weathered sides of the house, and it was. I introduced Marshall to a stripper that I had used before with great results, and we negotiated an increase in price for the extra effort to strip three sides of the house. I'm a handy guy, and having done it several times I know what it takes to do this job. I'm very picky, and tend to over-think things sometimes. On top of that I'm used to doing things myself, not hiring contractors. This all probably makes me a bit of a challenge for contractors. I ask a lot of questions, I agonize over decisions, and I want to understand the details. I make a decent living, but $8000 is a lot of money to me, and I wanted to spend it wisely. Marshall was patient with all my questions, and made a consistent effort to make sure I understood every step of the process, why they did it the way they did, and the range of possible outcomes. I wouldn't call Marshall old, but he's not a young man. He didn't do any of the work personally, though he has done it all in his younger days. He was on site every day, usually several times, to ensure his subs were paying attention to the details and make sure they had the materials they needed. He's not picking guys up off the corner either - he's worked with the same subs for many years, and they clearly work well together and respect each other. Marshall has high standards and his subs clearly do too - they obviously take pride in their work. They were very careful to mask off the large surfaces and even the little details like the doorbell and the outdoor faucets. The crew who applied the first coat of stain left quite a bit of trash and debris around the site when they left, which was disappointing. But when Marshall showed up the next morning, the first words out of his mouth were an apology. He said he was disappointed because they knew he expected better, and he would have a word with them. And before knocking on the door he'd already made a trip around the house picking up trash. He couldn't have handled it better. I'm very pleased with the end result, and the whole experience I will definitely hire GALH again. I have some interior painting that needs to be done, and they do that too. Not to mention decks and just about anything else you can imagine. Great American Log Homes doesn't have a fancy web site, a secretary, or a marketing department. What they do have is an owner who is detail-oriented, experienced, and truly cares about delivering a quality job and making his customers happy, and surrounds himself with like-minded people to ensure that it happens."

"Craig helped me take a fresh look at my yard. I live on a corner lot and our house is the center of the neighborhood.  There is a large redwood tree on the corner that really stands out.  Craig made sure the winter did not affect the angle of the lighting and that all lights and wiring worked properly.  Craig installed an extensive lighting system over a year ago.  He installed a system of "up" lights to illuminate large and small trees (japanese maples) around my house.  He installed blue lights in the back that has made a dramatic designer affect.  I love it!  One of the blue lights shines through my kitchen window casting a soft blue light in the kitchen.  It's stunning and my friends are always amazed.  My house has large columns, he illuminated each column for a dramatic affect, including my very attractive one of a kind front door.  The door now really stands out from the street.  My house is two story with a complex roof line.  He installed lighting on the roof to outline the house indicating the overall striking details of the roof, as well as the previously mentioned columns.  For safety he installed lighting along two walking paths.  Now the postman and delivery people don't have to stumble to find the front door.  I cannot overstate the dramatic affect it has made for our home AND the entire neighborhood.
Craig is a designer at heart and electrician/outdoor specialist ...the total package.  Previous outside lighting companies I asked for quotes wanted to sell me one of their "plans," their standard boring lights.  But Craig has a designer's eye and makes it really special.  Not necessarily flashy (but he can do that too), but elegant and inviting.  Plus the exterior lighting makes my home much safer.  I have a security system but the added lighting increased my sense of privacy and security.
Craig's son is a great part of his team.  He is quickly learning his father's business end and flair for design.  He knows how to install the equipment and explain how it all works together.  They are a dynamic father/son team.

"I can't say enough good things about Live Electric. Anthony spent a lot of time with me in the planning stages (that he was not paid for) which was really important. He gave good advice on the number and placement of recessed lights and switches-- I was having a hard time visualizing the lighting in the finished space. He gave advice not based on his profit, but what he thought I really needed or didn't need. He did the same with the bathroom lighting and stereo surround wiring and placement. In fact, if not for his advice, I would have spent more money overall for unnecessary lighting, wiring and speakers. He was very patient during this process and came over several times prior to doing the work. I am completely satisfied with all the lighting, electrical, tv and stereo and have no regrets as a result. Live electric also used the best quality equipment and lighting during construction. I double checked their recommendations and materials used and found that they were of superior quality and highly recommended by other professionals.
He and his employees were always prompt, cleaned up well after their work and were extremely professional. I will absolutely use Live electric again and recommend to my friends."

FAQs for electrical wiring or panel upgrade projects in Danville, VA

While homeowners with substantial electrical knowledge might technically attempt a subpanel installation, most local building departments require permits and inspections for this type of work. Professional electricians understand local code requirements, can obtain necessary permits, and ensure the installation meets safety standards. Given the significant safety risks associated with incorrect electrical work, most homeowners benefit from hiring a licensed professional.

A standard subpanel installation takes an average of four to eight hours. This timeframe may extend if you're installing multiple subpanels or adding specialized circuits like those for spa equipment. Factors such as difficult access points, complex wiring paths, or permit processing times can also affect the overall project duration.

Adding a subpanel doesn't directly reduce electricity consumption or lower your utility bills. A subpanel simply redistributes power from your main panel to additional circuits. However, organizing your electrical system more efficiently may help prevent overloaded circuits and the associated problems. For actual cost savings, consider energy-efficient appliances and lighting instead.

The appropriate subpanel size depends on your specific electrical requirements. Consider the number and type of devices you'll be powering, potential future needs, and the capacity of your main electrical panel. An electrician can perform a load calculation to determine the most suitable amperage rating for your situation, ensuring you have adequate power without overpaying for unnecessary capacity.

A main electrical panel connects directly to your utility's power supply and contains your home's primary service disconnect. It distributes electricity throughout your entire house. A subpanel, by contrast, receives power from the main panel and redistributes it to a specific area of your home. Think of the main panel as the primary distribution point and the subpanel as a secondary branch that extends your electrical system's reach.

While electrical upgrades aren't as immediately visible as kitchen or bathroom renovations, they can contribute to your home's functionality and safety. Prospective buyers often appreciate updated electrical systems that can accommodate modern power demands. A properly installed subpanel that provides additional capacity for workshops, home offices, or future expansions could be an attractive feature for certain buyers, though the direct impact on home value varies by market.
