"I had a gushing leak next to my water main. The county inspector shut it off, which meant that I needed a plumber that day or go without water for the weekend. As I made calls to Angie's List providers, Joe's Plumbing was the first to respond with same day service. Joe came within 2 hours of my call after finishing a job some 25 miles away.  <br /> He excavated dirt around the pipes and quickly diagnosed the leak. He replaced a 12-inch section with new PVC and turned my water back on in all of 30 minutes.  <br /> I watched as he worked and can vouch for his professionalism in quickly resolving the issue with quality workmanship and materials. <br /> Lastly, the price was the bottom of the price range he quoted me over the phone. In fact, he came in lower than the others that I called. <br />"

"Over the weekend one of our bathrooms wouldn't flush/drain. We were due to have our septic tank emptied, and so we thought that would fix the problem. When it didn't, I called about 10 plumbers to get an idea of how much it might cost to fix the problem. Alternate Design was one of the 10 because we liked that they were listed on both Angie's list and asktheseal.com. Even though they were a little more expensive than others, my husband and I decided to have them come based on the helpfulness/professionalism of the initial phone call. After the first conversation, we realized that not only did we have a blockage, but the pipes had become disconnected and all of the water/sewage was draining out under our house! (Our house has a crawl space underneath.) They were scheduled to come at noon the next day. At 11:30 they called to let us know that their current job was a little more work than anticipated, but if it would work for us, they would still arrive by 2. A little before 2 Ben arrived. After discussing the problem, we agreed to pay a fee to have him climb under the house and assess the situation. Keep in mind the sewage had been leaking under the house! This was not a "fun" job! He then gave us an estimate of what it would cost to fix the problem. We agreed to have him come back and he said he would be at our house at 9 the next morning. Ben arrived a little before 9 and got right to work. Within about 3 hours the job was complete. Everything was left clean, and looks very neatly done. The things that most impressed us: 1. Ben was very respectful, polite, and clean. Put on booties anytime he entered our house! (This is a company policy) 2. They communicated when they were running a little behind, and arrived when they would be here. 3. We feel confident in the work completed. Everything looks great. Everything was left clean. 4. They are listed on asktheseal, so I know everyone that works for their company is background checked, drug checked, etc. I have a very large family, and will not hesitate to recommend Alternate Design to anyone that could use their services. I will definitely call them in the future if I have a problem with the plumbing in our house. By far the most positive experience I have had on any home repair work, and being that we live in a 100 yr old house where we have had to remodel both bathrooms as well as the kitchen, dry wall, air conditioning, etc, we have had a lot of experience! Thank you Alternate Design Plumbing!"

"I don’t recall any troubles with scheduling. He was unable to complete the work on what we had wanted to have him do. We didn’t have the correct components to install a new sink in at the time. He was able to install the new toilet insides as I had all of the parts available for him. The plumber did share his disappointment in how there was some facts left out of the fine print for the Big Deal. We liked him and would consider hiring him again."

"Fantastic. I called on Sunday just to leave a message, and my call was returned within an hour and appointment was made for the following morning. The price was fair, costing $249 for a 1/2 HP Badger garbage disposal - installed. The plumber (Matt) showed up 15 min early the job was completed within an hour. He left no mess and was professional. I would definitely use Lou's plumbing again."

"My home and yard had serious drainage issues so after getting a recommendation from NextDoor, I contacted Clear Water PSI to get a quote. They came out promptly, gave me a reasonable quote and started the next week. The job was completed well, staff walked me through the work they were doing and kept me informed throughout the process. They also cleaned up my yard as well as possible. I would recommend Clear Water PSI to others."

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Daytona Beach, FL

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
