Customers say: Quick response

"I recently hired JBR Construction for an excavating job at my house, and I'm extremely satisfied with the results. The team was professional, courteous, and did an excellent job waterproofing all around the house. The work was completed on time and within budget, and I would highly recommend JBR Construction to anyone looking for a reliable and quality excavating contractor."

"I Had RJ Brothers Cement widen and replace my driveway in June of 2022. This is how it looks 2 years later. Their response was "unfortunately there is nothing we can do". We followed all of their recommendations of care and did NOT use salt on the driveway. Though the job was originally performed in a professional manner I would not use their services again in the future nor would I recommend their services due to the outcome just 2 years later."

"Detroit Concrete Leveling diagnosed my somewhat complex driveway issues and fixed the issues as described. They were honest and efficient in quoting and completing the work. I was able to hire a snowplowing contractor after this repair."

"Terrible experience spent so much money with a guaranteed warranty for accepted job only to find he wasn't so nice and polite once I pointed out issues with incoming water issues remain the same, as if no work had been done. His own worker told me alone in private "I told him more should have been done." Joseph Safie aka Joey Safie works under Licensed Number 2102196780, which is SAS Services, Inc. - Don't let him scream at you when you have a warranty problem or bully you telling you that you have the wrong company, review the license on contract. The company is licensed under SAS Services, Inc - check out reviews under that name. Joey refused to honor his promise on workmanship or warranty, and only offered to charge me thousands more with no proof of drainage connection on work performed. Zero Integrity and Honor of Workmanship. Don't endure the drama of his Jekyl and Hyde persona of this contractor that works under licensed name SAS Services, Inc. (look up reviews there before anything else)."

"They waterproofed our basement several years ago. They included a lifetime warranty (not my lifetime, but the lifetime of the structure.) We've had subsequent leaking and getting them to revisit has been a nightmare. They don't return calls, they arrive 3 hours late to an appointment and then when they determined the work needed fell within the warranty, they never called to schedule the follow up appointment. When we called, they booked us for 2/8/2019 between 9am-10am. When they didn't show by 11am, we called. They said that because we don't have a cell phone, they couldn't reach us. (We only provided them a home phone number) and that our appointment was cancelled because of an emergency yesterday. They do not care about our business because we have already paid them over $5,000 and they refuse to follow through with their guarantee."

"What made their service so good was their professionalism; they didn't stop working until the job was done. No matter what little problems came up, they kept going. They are excellent, professional, and very pleasant."

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Detroit, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
