Of course, I turned to Angie’s List where I found Calhoun Plumbing & Heating, which is in my zip code. Upon calling the number listed, I got voice mail, left a message, and Lloyd Calhoun returned the call in less than 30 minutes. It was already late in the business day and, if Lloyd had offered me a next day appointment, I would have been thrilled. But Lloyd came over that evening, after finishing his scheduled clients, to give me a FREE estimate. He answered all my questions to my satisfaction and I had a lot of them. The old water heater was paid for by the previous owner’s appliance insurance when I purchased the house. Being a naïve, first-time home owner, I hadn’t a clue what to look for in a water heater and was at the mercy of the plumbing company contracted by the previous owner’s policy. The company unnecessarily installed a power-vent water heater (which costs roughly $200-$300 more per unit than a direct vent model) in spite of the fact that the original water heater was located adjacent to a chimney, and there already existed a hole in the chimney to accommodate the vent pipe. The next evening Lloyd was back with a nice Rheem unit that fit the specs. Installation went off without a hitch. They carried the old unit out to the curb. (It was gone before the garbage truck made rounds the next morning.) The basement work area was swept and tidy when they left. What more can you ask for?"
