Customers say: Quality work

"The work that was performed was very good, and even went above and beyond on several occasions.  One area needed some additional drywall work and looked terrible.  Called Rod back to look at it at it himself.  He promptly came out agreed how bad it was and said he would come back out and make the necessarry  repairs himself.  He never returned to make those repairs even after several attempts to contact him, with no response.   <br /> One major issue I had was that for cleanup and for some of the work performed, his workers used my equipment.  I did not mind that they used my stuff if there equipment was not available as long as what they used eqipment was still in good working condition, but the several items were left in a messy and dirty condition and actually had to replace one of the items they used.  <br /> I have tried to contact them later for additional work but again with no response.  Work is good when they do show up.  I would definitely have them come back and do some work for me again, if i could get them to call back. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"We started a deck project by going through Angie's List. LJ Roofing & Restoration was the only one the call us back. They came out and worked with us and saw our vision. The process has been great. Great communication, talking almost daily, accommodating to our ideas, and very friendly. They have been working through the weather and not skipping a beat. The attention to detail is amazing and seeing the vision come to life has been awesome. I would definitely recommend. They even do financing that other contractors did not offer. Very professional company and we are very happy with the whole process."

"Mike and Jim did an outstanding job leveling, reinforcing and and structurally improving my mother&#39;s deck. They made certain that my 90 year old mother could safely navigate outdoors on the deck which is her very favorite place to be! I am beyond satisfied with this finished Deck repair project by Mike and Jim of Tri-state Home Repair &amp; Maintenance. They have exceeded all our expectations!"

Small jobs welcome

"I feel like his price was too high, but I needed it done so I went ahead with the contractor. But I probably will not ever use them anymore. It was a mailbox replacement and he charged me close to $600.00 to do a 30 minute job. "

"Jason took our stairs to the basement that were a tiny spiral mid evil type stair case and made them so amazing. He also took out 7 layers of flooring in our kitchen and laid new real wood to match our current wood floor. He also drove out of his way to pick up our new granite. He came back a couple years later and redid our entire front porch and did some electrical and other odd and end jobs. He is an honest man and Works very hard."

"Kevin just finished the forth project at our home. Every year we collect money and hire him. By now he has worked on two bathrooms and our kitchen. Putting new tiles in one bathroom including complete replacing the structure was accomplished so well to perfection. The project he just completed was bathroom tile regrouting and fixing. We are already looking forward to hire Kevin for our next project. We completely trust him to a level that we just agree with whatever he says because we know that he suggests the best."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Dry Ridge, KY

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
