"Excellent and quick service! Jason contacted me within minutes of requesting a quote late in the evening regarding installation of a NEMA 14-50 outlet for an EV charger. He coordinated an electrician to come give an estimate the next morning. Shaun arrived at the designated time and examined where I wanted to put the outlet. He intelligently considered that where I wanted the outlet placed required cutting through sheet rock, which would be complicated and expensive. He suggested a much better location for placement that was also lower cost, which I agreed. Shaun was also able to do a quick CSST bonding of a gas furnace line I requested on the same day. He got both jobs done within a couple hours, left the area clean, and we made a smooth payment transaction. Total for both jobs done in the same day of the quote was $672 ($612 for outlet installation and $60 for CSST bonding). Other electricians I requested charged double or more, had a wait over a week, or charged even simply for a quote. I highly recommend this company to install your EV charger or other electrical needs."

"Couldn't have asked for better service. Issue ID'd and fixed in about 45 seconds flat. Load/line wired wrong. After fixing, secured GFCI and two affected outlets, and then gave a quick block of instruction on the issue. OUTSTANDING! Then, on top of that, I had used a coupon for 2 hours labor for $149.00 so they called the office and got that cut just about in half to what I figure was simply a service call fee. Advised on a washing machine wiring hookup as well which I was able to do myself cuz it was pretty cut and dry. Their knowledge of residential electric and residential CODE was just what we needed. HIGHLY recommend."

"Small project but they were the first ones to reach out and respond with what I felt was a reasonable quote. The technicians showed up. The only downside and it’s nothing I was told I would receive a text or a phone call before they showed up and I did not. They just came. They still get five stars."

"Our old range (original to the house) suddenly stopped working so we bought a new range the weekend before Thanksgiving and thought the old one could be pulled out and a new one simply plugged into its place. Except, unbeknownst to us, there was no plug. The old range was hard wired into the house! Who knew such a thing even existed? So, before the range could be installed, an electrician had to install a plug--that day! But it got worse, the electrician arrived promptly and then left to get some parts. He returned to discover (once he took everything apart) that we actually needed a whole new circuit which, after leaving again to get more parts, he installed at three times his original estimate. The first estimate had been a shock to begin with because we went into this thinking it was a simple thing to switch out an appliance. I don't believe anything dishonest happened, it was just a home repair problem that kept snowballing. While working in the crawlspace, he accidentally broke a pipe and water was spewing all over the place. We had to find the buried water main to shut it off. But the Streamline plumber he called came promptly and fixed it. The new stove was eventually installed. It was a huge, unanticipated expense but I'm really grateful that 1) they were able to both come on very short notice (same day) and that they eventually did get everything taken care of."

"Luis was very capable and friendly. He wore a mask, booties to protect interior floors, and even put a carpet under his truck to protect the driveway from any fluid leaks. I showed him the three problems I had and he was able to quickly diagnose and repair all three including the replacement of a faulty GFCI component and locating the switch that controlled the outdoor security light. Afterwards he checked the main circuit breaker panel and made a couple of corrections, tested all of the GFCI circuits in the house and checked the smoke and CO2 detectors. I will definitely contact CMC Electric the next time I need electrical repairs or installations - and I'll be sure to ask for Luis!"

FAQs for electrical switches, outlets & fixtures install or repair projects in Durham, NC

To select and hire an electrician for your light switch installation, start by evaluating candidates as you would for any skilled position. Ask detailed questions, request a written quote, and verify their licensing credentials. This careful screening prevents unexpected fees and ensures every aspect of the installation, including any drywall repairs, complies with code.

A light switch can malfunction due to compromised wiring or overheating conditions. Faulty connections and excess heat diminish the switch’s performance. If you hear crackling, popping, or hissing sounds when toggling the switch, this indicates active electrical faults that pose a safety hazard and demand immediate professional inspection. Prompt attention prevents further damage and ensures reliable operation.

Installing a light switch takes 30 minutes or less, on average. The installation time depends on the switch type, with dimmer switches requiring additional time compared to standard on-off switches. While the hardware replacement might be completed in 15 minutes, it's essential to adhere to safety protocols, like turning off the circuit breaker and verifying there's no power, for a safe and code-compliant installation.
