"Let me start with the final product... we are absolutely thrilled at how our family room has transformed by this new gorgeous addition. <br /> Mitch and his team did an outstanding job building this unit for us. He was very detail-oriented and worked like a thorough professional. We would say he went above and beyond what was agreed upon and we really appreciate his work. He could have rushed and finished the job within the deadline but he took an extra day to ensure the product was well made! <br /> My wife and I wholeheartedly recommend Mitch's Custom Carpentry for any specialized carpentry job. <br />"

"From beginning to end, the process was thorough, with each step/detail explained completely so we knew what would be happening when, what to expect, and how we could communicate with them about any issue/concern. They were very professional, courteous, and they made every effort to clean up after every phase of the remodeling each day. When we saw a problem, they quickly corrected it to our satisfaction. While the whole process took quite a while, the final product made the wait worthwhile. They were on the high end of costs, but they proved to be worth it in the long run. <br />"

"Dave York and his team have been truly outstanding over the past year in helping us take a lovely, though aging, home that we purchased and making it sound again. Some issues were more serious than others, but at every turn Dave treated each issue with high priority. Further, while he "knows a lot about a lot" already, when an issue arises that he has not encountered, he does the research and won't stop it until he is satisfied himself in terms of confidence to do the job right. He is fair, honest, thorough, and friendly. We can only offer the highest praise for York Remodeling."

"It was by far the best service we've ever received from a service provider! I happened to meet Mr Wallace at the local Sherwin -Willams paint store during a Sunday afternoon supply run. As we both were waiting for an available sales clerk we chatted and Mr Wallace was a wealth of information on home improvement "how to" advice. As we parted I casually asked if he knew of contractors willing to do our small job. I was at this point, in a panic because the day before I learned my daughter, her fiancé, their pets and all of their belongings would be moving back home as they both got jobs in Indy! We had two bathrooms and two bedrooms in the throws of remodel caos and the contractor we thought would be available had just informed us our project was now scheduled to start in October! (we got his estimate in April for July start date, not October!....another story, another review) Mr Wallace surprised me when he said he owned a home repair company could help. I asked when can you start? When he said "Friday", I could have kissed him! This was the beginning of a beautiful relationship! Mr Wallace stopped by that week to look over our projects. During his first visit he continued to give me helpful advice on painting, flooring and general "contractor" insider tips. His pricing was very competitive and the scoop of work left NOTHING overlooked! On the agreed start day Mr Wallace arrived with his crew and walked them through all of the planned work. He returned that evening to check on the progress, in fact Mr Wallace checked on the progress and quality of the work everyday of the three day job. With his guidance we also performed the tasks we needed to do, in the evenings, to be ready for the tradesmen arriving next. Over the past four months we have undergone several home improvement projects: landscaping, exterior house painted, foundation and masonry work, plumbing, whole house carpet cleaning, roof and window work... a total of 10 service providers, with over 30 dudes and dudettes working on my property! Without a doubt Wallace Construction Group was by far the most professional, most helpful, most trustworthy, most respectable. Wallace Construction Group provided the best quality, best price, best service and the best "frontman" ever...Marc Wallace! <br />"

"This particular job was a total remodel of 1.5 baths and a kitchen. The Clatons ripped out walls, cabinets, bath tub, everything. Plumbing was moved to accommodate a new bath tub location in the full bath. Also a washer and dryer was added, along with plumbing and exhaust for the dryer. A drop ceiling was removed and replaced with drywall along with all new drywall on the remaining ceilings and walls. All new electrical was installed. New kitchen cabinets, counter, sink, etc. Everything was done without any problems at all. The Clatons work with little direction and are very creative as well as excellent carpenters and plumbers. I highly recommend Claton and Claton."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Earl-park, IN

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
