"Gary, the install tech, was great. He arrived on time, was professional, and went above and beyond to ensure everything was done right and I was satisfied. He installed a new radon pipe, and ensured the clamps were not directly against the house and the top of the pipe was properly away from the gutter. After the pipe was installed I noticed a rattling noise coming from the motor...Gary checked it and cleaned out debris multiple times until the noise was gone. You could tell Gary takes pride in his work and wanted to do the job right the first time (I feel like you don't see this very often). A job well done."

"Morgan was prompt and very professional.  He inspected the areas I was concerned with after a tough winter of snow and ice dams.  Within 24 hours I had a complete assessment with pictures and detailed explanations of work to be done.  Excellent service - - - I would definitely recommend MKC Associates! <br /> <br /> <br />"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"I hired Michael McDowell, president of the Building Inspector of America company, to inspect a property I was hoping to purchase. The home was built in 1908, had a couple small additions, private water, and a greenhouse building. The property is located in Wilbraham, Mass. <br /> The cost of the inspection was slightly higher than others in the area, but I opted to pay for various water tests and other add-ons. He also came highly recommended. So, I moved forward with him. <br /> Michael was responsive and professional from the start. He told me what I could expect on inspection day, and he assured me he would spend all the necessary to discuss any concerns or questions that came up. <br /> We met at the house. His inspection took a couple hours. He was very thorough. Moreover, he taught me a lot about the house as we went through it. <br /> In the end, Mr. McDowell supplied me with a 16-page report, noting all of the home's issues, and provide recommendations or <br /> comments on each of them. <br /> I would hire this building inspector in a heartbeat. I was very happy with his attention to detail, deep knowledge, and willingness to spend time and answer questions. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in East Brookfield, MA

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
