"Inson is a creative genius with a superb eye. He did everything with meticulous detail and completely transformed our apartment into an amazing, gorgeous home. We enjoy entertaining, and our friends love coming over, always remarking how beautiful and inviting our home is- and that was exactly what we wanted, except Inson brilliantly upgraded our concept, within budget and on time (even with our aggressive timeline because we needed to be out of our old place and into our new within months!). Inson’s team was also great to work with - always polite and professional. We highly recommend Inson and plan on working with him again on our Hamptons home!"

"Absolutely amazing experience. SO EFFICIENT, always on time, GREAT value, unbelievable communication, and tremendous transparency. The contractors were so GREAT at what they do, and were clean and always on time. No hidden costs or expense (which you deal with with MOST contractors). This is not the best contracting company I have worked with, this is the BEST COMPANY I have ever worked with."

"I gave this man $3000 which was 33% of the job upfront. Was supposed to give him 33% at the halfway part And 34% upon completion. But when I went to my bathroom and realized you left drugs in my bathroom and I have small children. Not like that 3000 black and small cleaners caught easy and heâ s lucky he hasnâ t been charged with nothing. Only reason that happened is because I wouldnâ t pursue charges. He obviously is a drug addict and has a problem so maybe he should get help Possibly isnâ t the option maybe rehab is. If you paid for supplies, you got ripped off wait 10 years and it will all fall apart charges for certain stuff but buys different stuff so he can use the extra money to pick himself up drugs without nobody noticing, I am so terribly in grief over this. $3000 he ran off with how is Matt doing in business and not in a jail cell"

"I wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Michael Sabella for his outstanding work as a contractor on projects involving the expansion and renovation of my residence. Michael first collaborated with me over 20 years ago when he undertook a second-floor bathroom remodeling project. His expertise and commitment to excellence were apparent from the outset, delivering exceptional results that left a lasting positive impression. Five years later, I contracted Michael for additional work, entrusting him with the extensive remodeling of the first floor. This encompassed a comprehensive transformation, including the remodeling of the kitchen, living area, a bathroom, and a bedroom. Once again, Michael's dedication to his craft and his ability to bring innovative ideas to life were evident throughout the project. In the last ten years, Michael undertook the challenging task of adding a two-level expansion to our existing house, encompassing a total of 400 square feet on each level. His expertise and attention to detail were evident throughout the entire process. On the second floor, he successfully updated the kitchen and seamlessly integrated it with the existing living area, creating a harmonious and functional space. One of the key aspects that sets Michael apart is his ability to assemble a highly skilled and qualified team of contractors. From electricians and plumbers to painters, flooring specialists, and tile workers, every individual involved in the project exhibited a level of professionalism and proficiency that exceeded our expectations. The coordination and collaboration among the various trades ensured a smooth and efficient workflow. Not only did Michael excel in the interior renovations, but he also demonstrated exemplary project management skills in overseeing the construction of a retaining wall and a two-tiered drainage system around the new addition. This strategic approach was implemented to prevent runoff water from entering the first floor of the addition, showcasing Michael's foresight and commitment to ensuring the long-term integrity of the structure. Throughout the entire duration of the project, Michael was a constant presence on the job site. His hands-on approach and proactive involvement in directing the contractors underscored his dedication to delivering high-quality results. His leadership style fostered a positive working environment, and his effective communication ensured that all aspects of the project were executed to perfection. In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend Michael Sabella for any construction project. His professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to assemble and lead a skilled team make him an exceptional contractor. I am extremely satisfied with the outcome of the projects, and I am confident that Michael's expertise will bring success to any future endeavors."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Edison, NJ

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
