"Mike and his crew were great! We had originally ordered an egress window and a walkout, but had to alter our order due to HOA guidelines and Mike was very easy to work with to make the adjustments and we ended up with two egress windows. Billing and administration was also seamless. Can't speak highly enough of the company."

"We are very pleased with Florence Fences & Iron Works. They came in and they gave me a quote right away. They actually build the fences, they are Iron Works themselves so they don't order from other people. They asked us what we wanted and drew it up. They said, give us a week to build it and we will be back and put it in. Which is exactly what they did."

"The work went very well.  We had a few rain delays, but that could not be helped.  Also we were coordinating other work with another contractor (see R and R Concrete) that sometimes caused delays. They showed up when expected, excavated one side of the house and dug holes on the other (walk out basement) for the piers.  When finished the yard was repaired as good as could be expected for St Louis summer. I have a little work to do on it now that it has cooled off. I had to have cracks repaired inside and concrete work done on the outside.  The people they recommended did wonderful work. <br />"

"We had an old wood deck on the back of our home and wanted to enclose the space with a sunroom.  The house doctor sent a great representative that gave us all our options and pricing for each.  They even provide financing for the addition.  After demolition of the wood deck they poured a concrete pad and "created" our concrete steps (we love them!)  The sun room went up in a matter of days, to include a full electrical upgrade and installation of a heating/cooling system.  Every step of the installation was conducted to ensure the room met all required codes, and when it was discovered that lights had not been added, they put them on anyway at no charge to us.  The guys cleaned up the worksite perfectly and were very accommodating to us.  I would recommend this company as all of the individuals we interacted with were highly professional!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Effingham, SC

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
