"They made design recommendations, they responded to our questions promptly, and beat of all, the quality of their work was the best. We are so happy with our porch remodel - it far exceeded our expectations. We’ve used other contractors in the past - but we won’t anymore. No one does better work than Craftsman Renovations."

"Josh was honest and upfront about our project. He offered three different options to complete our project. He explained all that would be involved and price for each option. After agreeing on one, the price he quoted is what we paid. The work was done on time and on budget. I would highly recommend Genuine Building and Renovation"

"We needed a door installed between our kitchen and basement. Finest (styled fiNest) Home Services came out and gave a professional and reasonable bid. Their staff was professional and friendly, and this held true on the day of installation. The door is great and my cat is safe. We will be using fiNest again."

"Complete Renovations remodeled our two upstairs bathrooms. Jon was exceptionally easy to work with. He is patient and detail oriented, open to suggestions while never hesitating to offer suggestions of his own. He managed a terrific team of subcontractors, scheduling them in a timely manner so the work progressed smoothly and keeping us informed of who would be on site when. Jon was present regularly to keep an eye on things and handle any problems that arose. The result was two new bathrooms with all the changes and additions desired: lovely natural stone tile work in the showers and around the vanities, beautiful custom-made vanity cabinets and linen storage, wall heaters and new lighting, a soaking tub, and toilets converted from wall-hung to floor mounts. We couldn't be more pleased with the finished project and would definitely work with Jon again."

"Things went very well. The four-person crew was prompt, professional and and efficient. The foreman described what was going to happen and how. The concrete walkway, front step and driveway sections that had settled over time were gently lifted and leveled using a polymer foam. After the work, all of the driveway section seams were level and smooth. Very few traces of the work were left behind. We would highly recommend Badger Basement Systems."

"We hired the Egress Window Guy to install a new egress window in place of a leaking glass block window in our basement. Their quote process was easy and straight forward. Installation was done within one day, and we couldn't be happier with the results. There is so much more light coming into our basement now, and we have a lot more peace of mind knowing it is an additional exit point should we ever need it (hopefully we don't). We are thrilled with the results and would recommend the Egress Window Guy to anyone in the market for adding a new egress window to their home."

"It's a work still in progress. Have one more bathroom to do &  cosmetic work in living room & bedrooms but the most difficult & time consuming work is done. <br />  Per my request & needs, the whole project is taking longer than anticipated; the cooperation I've experienced is great.   I can't speak highly enough for Mike & his subcontractors; his prime concern is being sure you've got the end result that you're aiming for & are happy with the work his subs are doing.. . <br /> Fred Coulter was fantastic about demolition, insulation, framing, tile work getting cabinets up & the island.; I don't think there's anything Fred can't do!   Mike Buffy with Sunset Electric, Derek Lewis with Lewis Heating & Air,  Mark, doing drywall & ceilings.  Mark Brown with plumbing.  I've just had a terrific experience with Mike & his people!  Money spent through Zehm Building Concepts is money well spent!  <br /> These people are professionals, listen to them!  They'll be listening to what you want to accomplish & remember it's a team effort.  If you get Mike for a contractor you're a lucky person indeed!  :) <br />"

"AIM High did a fantastic job installing a new roof on my garage. The price was fair and reasonable, and the final price was right to the estimate. All calls and questions were answered promptly. The work was completed to schedule. The company cleaned up all the construction debris. I will use them when I remodel my kitchen."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Ellsworth, WI

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
